| Message | Hi Dean, Wow! You've been busy. I have to say that my browser/ PC/Mobile Broadband connection still finds it hard to load and then it still will not smoothly scroll through nor separate the three YouTube clips that sit on each other. I reckon that Vista is not great since it uses a lot of graphical resources that might be better put to use with the material that the user wants to view. Win7? Not flipping likely! I am sorry Dean, I can't answer your question on folders since I have no knowledge of the dashboard that Blogspot presents you with. I have no way of helping you with that short of visiting you in Germany. That is unlikely since we are moving house in December. However; a possible solution to put your artwork and research on a level footing might be to re-issue the historical parts as posts in themselves. They would then be accessible from the link in the "Blog Archive" sidebar. That effectively by-passes the need to find the "Older Posts" link at all. That way, all of your posts, both artwork and research will be automatically indexed and available in that area near the top of the page once the now redundant "Blog Section" and "Ga_y/Le_sbian History Section" above are removed. You might need to entitle your posts more carefully to differentiate between posts of your artwork and of your research. PS; I LOVE the Pythonesque feeling that your 19th century hand left me with. | Message | Dear Blokey-Bloke, After discarding any and all superfluous material in the first section (however painful the process, and at what costs!: the site seems to have lost that certain "personable" touch now as a result) that might have unnecessarily "confused" visitors searching for the artwork section, I'm sure they shouldn't have any problems NOW finding and viewing my artwork. A large 19th-century hand sign pointing to the "older posts" link should help even the most helpless of visitors navigate his way to the right section. Be sure to let me know if you're still having problems with your browser. Question: How can I get the artwork section into a clickable "older posts"-type folder to save others' bandwidth? There is no such option available anywhere in the settings or layout section as far as I can see. If you find the time to explain (in language understandable to a layman) exactly what steps to take (without my having to DELETE any of my historical material), I would greatly appreciate it. | Message | My apologies Dean. I did not intend to cause you grief but you did ask. The header/footer thing though... it's confusing, and bear in mind that I have followed your work for a number of years. Even if I hadn't had to cancel Christmas this year due to lack of funds and could buy myself a wondrous Windows 7 machine with gold plated fecky bits I would still have to use a standard browser. Putting all attempts at tact aside; your pages at Blogspot are bloated. This might actually be working against what you want to achieve. As I said before... your work is worth the inconvenience and I will follow it as long as I am welcome to do so. I trust that we are well enough acquainted for me to say what I have said without causing insult. None is intended - quite the reverse - I want to help. | Message | Dear BE Bloke, However well meant, your latest message was quite a frustrating read. As an artist, I'm naturally a very visual person, which I'm sure you're quite aware of.  Also, as the saying goes, "a picture says more than a thousand words," making it only logical that my blog should be chock-full of "resource-hungry scans of documents", powerful images, historical evidence/proof/documents, by the way, that speak directly to the viewer, no matter what his mother tongue might be. How, for instance, am I to replace the depictions of hanged and burnt Dutch sodomites, or same-sex-loving imagery with text? It's impossible! (Besides, English-speaking or not, no one would take the time to read it all!) From an English-speaker's viewpoint, you make sense, to a certain degree, but(!), again, since people from all over the world visit this blog (and are expressly (!) welcome here), I have to take care NOT to get too heavy on text!Guess you'll just have to bear with this blog as it is (or get yourself a more powerful processor). Christmas is only two months away.  Will see if I can place the history section in a separate "folder"; even if it means having to study tediously technical crap such as HTML lingo. Yours, Dean H. The reason I have "so much header and footer material" is to provide more info, a background story (to those who have the time and/or are willing to read) on the particular illustration being covered. In answer to the above, the first thing I would do is to reduce the amount of material that has to be loaded on each and every page, then your drawings would load earlier. Also, try to replace some of the resource hungry scans of documents with text versions that occupy a fraction of the space. I think what might be causing folk to miss out on the "older posts" link is that it is not easy to find near the end of each webpage as is usual on these blogs. Instead, it is halfway down what is really a very long page. I am not sure why you have so much header and footer material. This is almost certainly the cause of your site's extravagant consumption of bandwidth and the subsequent problems on "non-premium" machines and slow connections. I have some experience with publications, mark-up languages and IT and would love to assist further but can see no practical way to do so in the circumstances. | Message | Dear Blokey-Bloke, Thanks for pointing out the nav problems you've been having. (I wasn't aware of this, since I have no problem at all navigating through my blog.) I'll gladly place the entire history section in a separate folder to help "de-congest" the blog, but haven't the slightest idea how *precisely* to go about doing so. I can't write HTML at all, and there is no place in the "Settings" or "Layout/Page Settings" section indicating how to make separate folders. The reason I set (under "Settings/Formatting" the number of artwork posts to be shown at "30" is because I noticed a while ago at a French site people complaining that they were only able to see "3" drawings of mine at my blog (apparently unaware that all they needed to do is click on "Older Posts" to view the rest. (They apparently couldn't speak English and couldn't read my notice located directly beneath the artwork postings: "To view more Hutch artwork, please click on 'Blog Archive' (upper left) or 'Older Posts' (above).)I'm afraid other foreigners would miss out, too, on my older artwork if I were to switch back to three pieces of Hutchartwork only on the "front page".  Any practical suggestions (aside from translating the above notice into 50 languages, heehee!) as to how best to proceed?  Thanks in advance! Yours, Dean P.S. | Message | SCHUBERT Dean, I just found where you'd put up a YouTube clip of Schubert's or at least I thought I had when the damned thing disappeared on me! It seems as if there are several clips on top of one another and if you click on any of them the browser jumps to a completely different part of the page and it is near impossible to know where the interesting bit has suddenly gone!!! This problem seems to happen when browsing your blog in particular my friend and I am guessing that it is because your page is extremely heavily loaded. Apart from making navigation difficult the sheer quantity of material on the one page is crippling it. Any chance of breaking it down a bit now that you have such a good portfolio? It would make it much more accessible and folk might find it easier to comment too. I appreciate that you are constantly tweaking little things here and there (like the eyes peeking out from the headline illustration) and I love to discover the nuances but I fear that these are getting overlooked. My browser appears to creak from the strain of rendering the whole page. Anyway... Schubert. I was fascinated to read about the allegations that he may have been homosexual. I always found his work fascinating but recognised that he does not seem to be popular. I put this down to his style of music, thinking that it is an acquired taste and yet, I always was drawn to it when allowed access to my Dad's record collection in my youth. >^..^< B E Bloke |

| Message | PC STOCKWELL Hi Hutch, Nice. There is something about the way in which the PC's chest is roughly exposed and the expression on his face that captures a moment of surprise in the victim's life. Rather darkly, this moment is likely to be his last one... As always, you expertly illustrate the male flesh beneath the clothing in a stark way that is also surreal due to the medium that you use. The masculinity of the small portion of the PC's chest is such that it commands the eye to look and yet it is small enough as not to dominate the entire picture. This is what I'd call an "edgy" picture. There is much here to contemplate. The sudden assault from behind being to the fore, so to speak. The depiction of a man pissing does nothing for me personally but I think that in this one instance it is quite appropriate to the scene shown given that the attack might well have been timed to coincide with the officer's pee break.
