| Message | Starving in Edmonton, Alberta.
After moving here last year my husband and I have been looking for a church where we can have genuine relationships and share our lives together with others, worshiping God and loving others. Everyone seems too busy and involved in their own cliques. Church seems to have become a Wallmart, a consumer site. People say I'd like a one of this and 3 of those. There are the people in control who do not invite others in because they do not want to change how things have always been done. And then there are the outsiders who come and go because they are never invited in and there is no room for them.
As I have talked with others in a variety of denominations in Edmonton, everyone seems to be starving for relationships, which is what Jesus teachings were all about and what the NT church was all about. Even people who have been in churches for over 20 years have said, "I thought it was just our church that was too busy." People have left churches because of doctrinal issues. Churches are struggling with budgets. Meanwhile people are starving for Love of God and Love of Neighbors.
Jesus must be weeping in heaven over this. How do we find a church where we can live out the commands of Christ in Community? We are starving. I never imagined being in such a dessert in the midst of mega churches and a few others who all seem to be going about the motions, while devoid of true community.
We keep praying and seeking. |
