| Message | I have recently had "church" in a IHOP, in a car, in several different houses, at the Blue Plate Cafe and in a park. So I agree that the common concept of what "church" is is distorted. I also believe Jesus meant what He said in Jn 14:12. So if the church is not seeing the sick healed, the blind made to see and the dead raised, in the literal sense, we are not walking as Christ intended. That really messes with traditional thought. It's easier to say that all passed away than to admit we need to change. While I agree in concept with unity in the church, I have some questions of how it is walked out. I have had dealings with an "Emerging Church" recently that beleives if you say you are a follower of Christ, you are. You can live anyway you want and be in fellowship because it is all between you and God and your brothers should not judge you. So you can be trafficing children sx slaves and be a follower of Christ. I would think you would have problems with that, you would say that is sin, and it would be a ligitimate reason to be out of fellowship. So the question becomes what "sin" is enough to causes dis-fellowship and who is even defining what is sin. What about a homosxual church? What about a church that let's women bring the word? What about a church that shows R rated movie clips as part of their service? Also our concept of "elders" may be off base, since most of the apostles, from the historic Jewish perspective, were probably less than 20 years old |
