MessageKudos to Sutter for actually making trades during this cap era. The Flames were sucking it up and needed to do something to change the core of their team. He has now done that. If this doesn't work out for the play-off this year Sutter will be out. But you can't say he isn't trying - which can't be said for many other GMs in the league.

I actually really like the Phaneuf deal. The Jokinen one I'm not crazy about, but he's at the end of his contract now and we aren't gonna re-sign him.

One thing that Phaneuf and Jokinen had in common - consistently inconsistent. Both were said to be head cases in the locker room. The Flames have been terribly inconsistent with brain cramps all the time - highlighted by Phaneuf.

They can now push for the play-offs and they didn't actually give up that much with these moves.

MessageOk, so I am now offering to trade for Stajan, Hagman, Higgins and..just kidding.

Crazy trading day but Sutter did manage to do the unthinkable - pick up six new guys and still manage to make his already crappy team crappier.
I can't fathom how Darryl Sutter has kept his job - he's clining to the fact that six years ago, the Flames made it the final...the Lightning won that year and have long since fired tortorella. Canes and Oilers met in the final next year- both have ditched those coaches.
Sutter has absolutely nothing to show for his time here except bad trades.

MessageIt gets even better. I just read the Jokinen, Prust for Kotalik, Higgins deal. I guess he is trying to get as many brutal forwards as possible to try and make Iginla want out. That is the only reason I can gather from trading for Kotalik and Higgins.

MessageIn talking to a fellow hockey friend tonight, the term 'GM Handicap' errr Sutter came up. How Sutter can justify trading an elite young dman for a group of scrubs and unrestricted free agents is beyond me.

MessageMaybe we should invite Darryl Sutter into our pool. That guy is crazier than Phil and I combined.

NameCommissioner Brown - Official Statement
Date2010-01-31 07:48
MessageIt is with much regret that the FHL Commissioner removes FHL GM/Owner privileges from the Chow-Town Bruin franchise founder Neufeld.

Neufeld was one of the founding members of the FHL and an owner/GM of the original 5 franchises. It is with much regret and sadness that this move had to be made.

Although the move has not been an easy one to make, we have felt that the actions and/or in-actions taken by Neufeld (i.e. not one league fee paid over the past 10 years, and lack of involvement in the past two mid-season drafts) leave us no choice but to force the FHL to make this difficult move.

It had become obvious that a move had to be made. The incident in first mid-season draft was seen to be a warning Neufeld, but unfortunately did not change the trajectory of the GMs actions.

At this time the FHL head office will be examining the references of possible new ownership of the franchise.

Commissioner Brown also wishes to extend to GM Neufeld along with other fellow GMs in the league that this is not a personal action against him, merely one that allows the league to conduct itself in a healthy fashion.
