MessageHello Porthcawl. I have found in my late Father's possessions, a postcard of Trecco Bay Holiday Camp, I think we went there in about 1948. The detail is good, those caravans !!! I was hoping I could upload it to your photo gallery. If you would like me to do that, please send an E-mail address. smiliemine is [email protected]

MessageI have read with great shame and dismay the adverse comments about what is happening to what used to be the beautiful town of Porthcawl. It seems that people don't care any more. Why does the local council allow the problems of litter, dog fouling, car retail on the seafront, dirty beaches et al to carry on without someone putting up their hand and saying "enough". I am sure Porthcawl still has a town council but are they powerless or is the council populated by non-residents. The town grew first of all on industry and then hospitality and tourism. I moved away many years ago due to work commitments but each weekend I read my Sundfay paper which has advertisements for many locations in Wales, especially Snowdonia - I can't remember the last time I looked at a "Visit Porthcawl" banner. I suppose I have to assume that indeed, nobody cares - what a great loss to the town and especially the local businesses. A new Summer is coming - do something now. Smarten up shop fronts, get the owners of the buildings on the seafront to have some pride in their hotels, restaurants, guesthouses and shops - they are the shop front of Porthcawl. Make it clean again - it isn't too much to ask. Compare the tourist statistics for the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and now this decade. You can do something about this - get a focus group or working party together - DO SOMETHING

MessageMy Nieces came to visit me in Porthcawl through the easter holidays and we stayed in a caravan on Trecco Bay, we all had a great time, swimming in Splashland, driving the bumper cars in Funtasia and we all went roller skating around the holiday park along the two beaches, it rained one day so we went to the pictures, shopping at the outlet village and for finally for a pizza before heading back to watch the shows on park, the kids danced all night with the troupers. A holiday is fun because you make it, people always look at the down side they should try looking at the good for a change, the locals were friendly enough don't forget they are not the ones on holiday YOU are..... there are plenty of places to visit around the area you just have to look museums, parks, dinosaur caves, castles, cardiff and swansea are'nt far either. Remember places change and improve... no more outside loos and shower blocks for caravans its all Mod cons Now. The beach at Trecco also has a blue Flag so its safe for your kids to go on and play either on the sand or find starfish and crabs in the rock pools, my nieces had a great time and can't wait to come back and see me. ( or maybe its Trecco Bay they can't wait to come back to visit) smilie smilie

MessagePorthcawl dosen't want tourists,go and have a look, the fair is going to be closed, campers are only wanted to spend there money and then must move on,the beach is dirty and rubish strewn as are the streets.Locals aren't happy unless they are having a moan about somebody or something, the seafront is only there for the selling of cars etc (must be a local untouchable) and watch out for local dog mess which is everywhere.Other than that enjoy yourselves ha ha.So Tourists Go Somewhere Else.
