A lack of fitness on Welshpool's part allowed Abergele to battle back for a draw in a game that the home team should have comfortably won.
A bright start to the game saw Welshpool take an early 3-0 lead thanks to a 40-metre penalty from Daley Jones.
After further pressure, Welshpool took advantage of a scrum on the Abergele 5-metre line, with scrum-half Tom Carter finding his way in under the posts for the first try of the game, which Jones converted.
As the first third of the game drew near its conclusion, Welshpool scored their second try, courtesy of fly-half Jonathan Rees-Jones, with a further Daley Jones conversion giving Welshpool a seemingly comfortable 17-0 lead.
However, from then on, Welshpool allowed the game to gradually slip away from them, with Abergele's superior match fitness paying dividends, as they worked their way back into the game with two tries in the second third of the game, leaving the Welshpool lead at a precarious 17-12 as the game neared its conclusion.
