| Message | From gmail. I am writing in the hope that you and the 3 Para Reunion Club may be kind enough to help me with my research for a forthcoming book about an aspect of the Falklands War. The book aims to tell the story of the liner SS Canberra's role in the war, and it is to be published by Aurum Press in spring next year, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the conflict starting. The story will be as much about the servicemen and civilians who sailed aboard Canberra, their experiences and thoughts, as much as it is about the ship itself. As you know, 3 Para were aboard Canberra for the voyage to the South Atlantic, and I would very much like to talk to any of the club's members who made that journey. By way of background, I have already interviewed numerous service and civilian personnel who sailed aboard Canberra. Additionally, P&O, which owned the ship, have kindly given me access to its archives, which give fascinating insights into this extraordinary episode. To tell you something about myself, I have been a journalist for 30 years, and am currently assistant editor of the Yorkshire Post, England's largest regional morning newspaper, based in Leeds. I wonder if you might be willing to pass this email to your members please? My email address is [email protected] If you'd prefer to talk first, please feel free to give me a call on 07910 778935, or let me have your number and I'll happily call you. I do hope you feel able to help. With thanks |
