MessageI received the sad news that Bob McGowan lost his battle against cancer on Thursday. Many of you will remember Bob, who was the Daily Express reporter who was embedded with 3 Para in The Falklands. He also co wrote the book Don't Cry for me Sgt Major with Jeremy Hands. Bob became a good friend to 3 Para on The Canberra, and was always proud to have been a part of our history.
I know all who have gone before Bob would make him welcome at the FRV.

MessageHi Guys,

Just found the Web Site, fantastic to see some of the old names still going strong, but so sad to see the losses.

Shocked and stunned to see the state of the old Battalion Lines, what on earth has happened? why oh why has the Regiment been moved out of our 2nd home (the shot).

God bless you all.
Scaz.

MessageA TRUE HERO

It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of GEORGE KAY at the age of 91 on Wed 3 Aug in St Christopher's Hospice in South London. George was at Arnhem with C Company, 3 PARA and was captured right at the end of the battle. After the war he was one of the first volunteers to form 21 SAS (Artists). In thhe early 60s he moved to Southern Rhodesia and took part in much of the fierce fighting against the ANC. He was the Sgt Major of Rhodesian Special Forces during this time. He was forced to move with his family to South Africa, where he joined the SADF and was the WO1 of 44 PARA Bde in the South African Army.

On his return from Africa, he fought tirelessly for servicemen's rights, chaining himself to the railings of Buckingham Palace was one of his more minor adventures. He was fiercely patriotic and I don't think George had a negative thought throughout his whole life, he was still badgering me to get him a tandem jump with the Red Devils even though he was desperately ill with the disease that killed him. His funeral will be held at the Hither Green Crematorium on Tues 23 Aug 2011 at 1245 hrs.

Rest in eternal peace George, you will be sadly missed by all who knew you.

MessageHello,
To confirm - as passed at the AGM - the next reunion has been booked at the Metropole Hotel in Blackpool (again!) over the weekend 16-18 March 2012, with the AGM and Gala Dinner, as usual, on the Saturday evening.
The same format as this year re Happy Hours etc - works well!
Let's hope for the same glorious weather as this year but...!
Hope to have booking forms out by end of October.
Regards to all.
