Message | Thanks Gary. I hope you enjoy all of the website. I see from the crew list your Dad was aboard the USS Spangler when it was commissioned on 10/30/1943 and remained aboard until 12/20/1945. If you would like a Remembrance posted in memory of your dad I’d be happy to assist. Thanks again for the visit! |

Message | Wayne, Thanks for the invitation to visit this site. I wasn't aware this page existed. My dad, Ted Colabuono, served on the Spangler with other Joliet, IL enlisted men. I plan to take some time to read everything here. Thanks again for directing me to this site. Gary Colabuono |

Message | Sadly, we lost another of our shipmates recently, Eugene Lund passed away on April 5, 2021 in Filmore, Utah. Gene was a radioman aboard the Spangler from 1956 to 1958. He was a dear friend and will be sorely missed. A remembrance page is posted on this website in the Remembrance Section. |

Message | Sad to report, I learned this afternoon that Joe Mitchell passed away this past Friday, Jan 8, 2021. Joe lived in Sgt. Bluff, Ia, and served aboard the USS Spangler, 1956-1958, as a Radarman, departing as a RD3. Our deepest sympathy is expressed to his wife Joan and their family. Joe was my closest friend in the Navy and to no longer share calls several times a year and occasionally visits is unimaginable! |

Message | A Remembrance Page for Stan Biess was uploaded to the website his afternoon. I apologize for the long delay! Stan passed away this past July and deserved remembrance much sooner. If you have something you would like to add to the page, drop me a note here in the guestbook. Much of the delay stemmed from Google doing away with the original Spangler website stored on the Google server in favor of a completely new approach. The retraining, sad to admit, doesn’t come as easy these days. |

Message | Hi Alice, I hope you received the email I sent you. Your dad was a Ship’s Servicemen (SH). He came aboard the USS Spangler DE 696 in July 1955 as a SH2 Petty Officer and departed as a SH1 in 1958, presumably when the ship was decommissioned. He was mostly involved with overseeing the ship’s store and replenishment of store items. |
