I went to Don Martin Radio School in Hollywood. I was a student from 1949-1950. My classmates were Alex Furillo, Patty Landau, William Detwhiler, Lee Drake, and several others. They were great memories. I went on to work with Johnny Grant at KMPC in Hollywood for the next 10 years. My show was "Bolero Time" with Vance Graham.

Wow! I have fond memories of the 1976-77. Bob Luttrel? I went to Montana after getting "1st fone" and announced/engineered for 3 years until joining AT&T. I still have my Don Martin recordings! Wow are they BAD!! I remember driving in one night around the time of Mann's premier of the original Star Wars movie, all painted on the side of their building across the street. Also, the big earthquake scare on the 5th floor. I enjoyed all of it,I was there the day that Elvis died. Well, hope to see more from the good folks that went to Don Martin! Hello Howard,
Class of 1957 - My Diploma says Virgil Dale Smith, but I never used Virgil from the time I graduated. The other night I was thinking about those Don Martin days and something told me to have a look on WWW and lo and hehold there it is, that great School. What memories.
I would like to help you with your project, and I am not far away, Auburn, CA near Sacramento.
I've managed 5 radio stations over the years, built the fourth UHF station in the LA market, channel 30, got bored with it all and went back to the Mission work. 6 years in Mexico City and 12 years in Munich West Germany, and there's much more in my travels, to date 68 countries. I was a corresondent for ABC News for 18 years with stints with MBS, CBS and Deutsche Wella.
Give me a call: Office: 530-885-8460 - Cell Phone 530-308-2689 - Home: 530-885-6003

I attended DMS in 1971. I had just been released from the Army. I remember Bill Wagner, Hamilton Williams , Jimmy Fitch , Tony Klima and Bill Mellenthine. All of the staff were superb teachers. It was a lot of fun. I never did become a radio personality, but I worked as a stage hand doing TV and theater in LA and later spent 23 years as a microwave tech in Silicon Valley

I attended DMS in 1963-64. James Fitch was one of the teachers there. There were a lot of the DJs that were alrady on the air that graduated and dropped by the classes - notably Bob Eubanks. I've had a wonderful career in radio (15 years)from DJ to Program Director to On-Air-Operations Director for an AM-FM station. I owe a lot of that success to DMS.

I entered Don Martins in 1969. What is the dispostion of the School today? I lived a few blocks away on June Street, just below Sunset Blvd. If I remember corectly the schhool was on Cherokee and Hollywood. Is the School still there? I used to cut through a full scale Dutch Windmill on my way to School each day, it was Mel Blank's office building. "The man of a thousand voices" he was a guest instructor at the School. Great time to be a Hippie in LA.

I was at Don Martin from 1968 to 1970. Took TV under Ron Pitts, and Radio under so many really great instructors. Pass the first phone thanks to Ivan Perry.
Have been in radio and television since then. Have worked at NBC, several corporate facilities (Sony, Toyota, Torrance School District) and am at DirecTV now.
Post more pictures and list more of the instructors.

Attended Don Martin's from November, 1956 to December, 1957. Worked at stations in Iowa, Georgia, Denver, San Diego and Sacramento but the most satisfaction came from my 16 years as an Air Force broadcaster in Armed Forces Radio and Television. Currently retired in Roseville, CA. Norm

Sad to say, we have just learned of the passing of one of our Don Martin School teachers, and host of KCBH-FM's classical music programs, Hamilton Williams. Hamilton passed away on June 30, 2006. He will be sorely missed.

Had fortune to go to the school from late 74-76. Was engineer and assistant production instructor then also. Have bounced around radio stations from Ontario, CA to Fresno to Missouri. A great 30 plus career still going on, now a Radio and TV Engineer. I owe it to Bob Lutrell, Russ Barnett, Jack Brown, Ivan Perry and the rest at DM.
