MessageHi. Been in much talk and correspondence with Suzi GB and Dealers mechanics who have done bearing shell changes to cure the tick-over speed knock from the engine of SV1000's. This does not cure them. Knock and circa 3000 rpm vibration is due to excessive crank-shaft end float. Suzi manuals say this. Old TLS and TLR engine had 0.05mm max and shows expensive assembly line process to ensure one of ten correct thickness shims are used to adjust it below this. Cheaper build SV engine from 03 onwards has no shims and typical float is over three times the previous engines maximum. Sent a drawing for remedy to Suzuki GB who have said I can do it if I like but completly at my own risk. They claim not to have drawings to decide for themselves. They would love to know if my mod works??? Go to Alpha sports on-line parts diagrams to see how different the crank diagrams are between the bikes. Suzuki have introduced a modified clutch basket/primary drive torsional damper to part fix problem as the vibration of the driven gear is what starts the crank off on it's side to side knocking on the crank case. Delivery oil has an additive that damps this down when new. First svce oil washes this out and its knocking like a cross between a big end or main bearing thats starting to fail but never does. My bike was so loud I could not sell it yet Suzuki refused to mend it and say they will no respond to any further letters from me - filed accordingly says Tony Kendrew of Customer Service.

Messagethanks for a helpful site. At 70 years, I expect I may be the oldest SV-1000 owner. My '03 naked model was bought new in July of '03, has 23K miles (competes with '81 Silverwing for my attentions)and is rather heavily modified. I don't ride hard, but like the performance when I want it. No main bearing noises or other bothers. Replaced shock spring with a lighter one from RaceTech, but still too stiff for my 145 pounds. Corbin seat with softer padding helps.
The SV is my 74th bike! That it has not been replaced is testimony to its excellence. Ralph
