MessageI first lived at 11 The Circle, then my family moved to 77 High Street when I was about 8. I attended both the infant and primary schools in the village before going to Fitzmaurice Grammar School in Bradford-on-Avon. After I was married I moved around Europe, N Ireland and various part of UK with my husband (who was in the army)and children. We moved to Brisbane, Australia in 1980. I have only been back to Dilton twice since then, maybe we'll make it back again one day. smilie

MessageHi,
I have just found this web site. I was looking for family info on the Moonrakers site.I am a moonraker and proud of it.
My parents ran the Prince of Wales. That was 54 years ago! My dad was a farm labourer i think and mum ran the pub. I remeber the woods at the back of the pub ,they used to fighten me because of the strange noises that came from them. Now i realise it was the foxes calling! We left the pub when i was quite young so dont have lots of memories.
Would be interested to chat to anyone who can remember or lived in Dilton then
Regards Linda

MessageBeen looking all over the net for information concerning a play that was supposedly done at Dilton Marsh Village school. The play was based on a book by W.H. Hudson; (A shepherds life.)
My mothers family are all from England and specifically from some of the areas mentioned in the book.
The question is, are there any DVD's available of this play?
If anyone has info e-mail me at; [email protected]

MessageHow nice to see a web site of my old village,I was born at 3 Clivey in 1942 and I left Dilton in 1964, having attended the British School, The Church School and eventually Matravers. My gramp had the grocery shop on 'The Green'T.Allen and Son. My memories of the village go back to the end of WW2 I grew up next door to the Price of Wales, I could go on about, Percy Jones's Bakery, the Garage was owned by Harry Millard and he was helped by Hopkins Huntley. If any of the real villagers(born there) would like a chat give me a call, I'm not far away.

MessageCame across this website while researching my family history. My GGG parents emigrated to Australia in 1841 and at the time their parents lived in Petticoat Lane, Dilton Marsh.
I have been visiting Dilton Marsh at various times over the last 25 years. My last visit after a long absence was July 2005 and I was surprised at how much housing had been built.

best wishes for 2006 smilie

MessageThank you for your advice. I put public message in guest book, but had no response. Have you any other ideas how I can get my fathers friends from the past to get in contact ? It is my parents 60th wedding anniversary in March, next year and it would be a nice surprise if people he knew would contact him. I was thinking along the lines of your newsletter or local paper, as probably most people of his age dont use e-mail !
Thank you.

MessageMy Grandparents lived on Westbury Leigh and i lived with them from 1939 to 1944.My grandfather worked at the brickmakers, was this at Dilton Marsh?i do recall the tannery, and seeing all the skins about.I also remeber a friend i had, his name was Dennis and he lived at the house which was adjacent to the railway bridge over the main road.My Uncle lived at a house at the end of Westbury Leigh which had a small stream running down the side.
I hope my memories are correct but i have only returned to the area once since i left 60 years ago so please excuse me if info incorrect.
