MessageI stumbled across this site looking for information on St Mary's Church Dilton.

My father's family all came from Dilton Marsh. Most of them worked in the tanneries.

I noticed a few that now live in Australia and thought it would be nice to hear from any of you.

I live in Sydney.
My email: [email protected]

Would love to hear from anyone.
Regards
Phil Newton

MessageI am Isabelle Harris's grandmother and was trying to find out, on behalf of Sharlene - her mother) which day would be Isabelle's last day before Easter. Sha does not appear to have term dates.

It would be helpful if they were on the website, is this possible? Or are they there and I have missed them!

MessageMy GG grandparents came from Dilton Marsh to Aust in 1848. They were Stephen Jones (born 1816) who married Ruth Bailey (born 1816). I am having difficulty tracing these families as there appears to be many Jones and Bailey families in Dilton Marsh at this time. Stephens parents were James and Elizabeth but we don't know who Ruth's were. I would be very grateful for any help. Regards Lynn

Can find no record from my limited family history knowledge and research and wondered if anyone has come across his name or possible George family from the immediate area ??? smilie

MessageMy Bailey family came from Dilton Marsh and my ancestor emigrated to Australia in 1841 (William and Hannah Bailey nee Dowding). There were loads of Baileys in the area of Westbury, Dilton and Frome at the time and all marrying into the other large local family groups. Marshman, Toop, Jones, Hearne, Dowding, Collier, Hall to name a few. An Applegate gave a reference to my ancestor for the bounty emigration scheme.
On arrival in Australia the family grew and I am in contact with distant cousins descended from the new Aussies born there. One of the cousins has a letter written in 1846 by William's father to him in Australia which gives a very intersting insight into DM life at the time. Potato crop failed and a very hard winter.
I would be interested in sharing a transcript of this letter with interested parties and also to hear from any county or local records officials who have any ideas on whether and how the letter should be preserved.

MessageMy grandfather Albert John Jackson was born on Five Lords Farm in December, 1861,( after the census of that year had been completed). The Jackson's were on that farm for many years and in the surrounding areas. Are there any decendants of my grandfathers siblings out there.
