MessageHello Richard and Keith and thanks for your post to the Guestbook. Both of you were at GAFB about 10 years later than I, and I have great memories of Greenville and the base. That was my reason for making the webpage and adding pictures. They have a reunion in Greenville every year in September if you would care to attend. There is also another group that meet in different locations each year. If I remember correctly, they met 2008 in OH and 2009 in NC. I did not get to attend 2009 in Greenville, but Gil has sent me some pictures I hope to get on line soon. My problem is: we are building a new home and hopefully will be ready to move in by May 1. I might add if you have pictures of Greenville or GAFB and would like to share them, I would appreciate scans of them. Thanks again and keep checking back. ...............gary smilie

MessageThis site has brought back many fond memories of my time in Greenville. The photographs are great.

I was at Greenville AFB in 1964. I was enrolled in the Personel Specialist Course. The base was phasing out at the time.

I was in barracks 256 but can't quite remember the street. I do remember being near the chow hall....which at that time was operated by civilians. The food was actually good.

I will always remember the Downtowner Hotel we stayed in many weekends. It was located just about at the north end of Main St. I will also always remember the hospitality of the Greenville citizens. They were extra nice to us service men.

I will never forget those days. I just hope and pray one day I can go back and visit.

MessageHey Gary...surprised by your note last night.

I was in the medical group from 53-55 where I drove an ambulance and covered the flight line. Many fond memories of that place, both town and base.

Discharged Sept '55 and went back to school on the GI bill.

Returned to Miss 10 years ago to live here with my Baton Rouge lady.

MessageHi Robert, thanks for posting to my GAFB Guestbook.

I guess class 53C, meant you were there in 1953?? If so, were you training under the civilian contractor?

I came there in the spring of 1953, and it was several months before the military took the base back.

Not that the military, was not there before and in charge, but the base was operated by a civilian contractor.

All new furniture was purchased and moved into the cadet barracks sometime in mid 1953.

I was part of the Air Installations squadron and helped with the moving of furniture.

I was discharged at GAFB in August of 1955 (end of my 4 year enlistment).

Have you been back to Greenville? Also, what or where is "Willie" you mentioned.

We have been having a GAFB reunion each year in October, in Greenville,

but due to the economic situation, that is uncertain for this year.

Thanks again for your posting.......................gary smilie

MessageI was a Cadet in class 53C at Greenville and loved
every minute of it but wouldn't want to do it again.
Went on to Willie for Jet training. Couldn't have
had two better training bases.
