Messagesmilie My father was in the Civil Service at GAFB from the forty's until the base closed. He then worked as fire and security at the airport until he retired in the 80's. My whole life was wrapped in the base and the memories in these pages are so wonderful.....thank you

MessageI went to Basic Medic School at Greenville AFB and was assigned there from 16 Apr 64 through
03 Jun 64. I remember Brown's Cafeteria in town. Was fortunate in being stationed with a great group of people and look back on that time with good memories. Wonder where some of them are now. Thanks for this site.

MessageI was in the Basic (Med Hlpr) class prior to Gunter AFB. Nov.22, 1963 I was standing in 18 inches of snow finding out that JFK was gone.Rumours spread over the base about everything till we were sent to the barracks.Had a good friend Jeff who was in Med program and hung out at gym a lot. Also I remember a tragedy in Greenville when 5-6 kids were killed pushing a car near Levee .Does anyone remember New Years Eve dance 1963? Our barracks was famous for stealing the supply sgts. buffer, hiding in the attic and it falling thru the ceiling Article 15 city !!!!!!!!!!

MessageI did my last three years of HS at GHS (57-60) - the longest my dad had ever been stationed at one place (B-29 pilot with SAC up until a year with NEAC at St. Johns, NFLD. before that). I spent the Summers of '59 hanging out at the MARS station and '60 working as a night dispatcher at the base motor pool. My younger brother, Kenny, was a lifeguard at the base pool.

After a 13 year mis-adventure, I married my GHS sweetheart (Winterville girl). 32 years and two kids later (total of 5 between us), we're retired and living our dreams in North Central Arkansas.

Really enjoyed going through the old Greenville/GAFB memories. Have seen the museum at the base - great work! All the old streets with no buildings on them are kind of sad, though.

MessageHello to all! Another year 2011, has come and gone and I hope you had a great year and a wonderful Christmas. Many changes have taken place in Greenville as elsewhere. A new bridge has been opened and the old one is being torn down. A new Mayor has been elected with a hope, of a new and vibrant city to come. I was stationed at GAFB from early 1953 to Aug 1955. Many of you, like me, have wonderful memories of Greenville, but in my case, it just is not the same as the 1950's. Of course, you might say that about a lot of cities. The GAFB reunion was held again this year with good attendance. Date: October 14-15, 2011, Location: Cypress Hills Tennis Club , 1440 Oakwood Drive, Greenville, MS 38701. New officers (Clark and Betty Nanney) were elected with plans for another reunion on October 12 and 13, 2012, at the same location. Thanks to Gil & Sue Oliver for serving as President prior to 2010 and Tony & Betty Finotti for 2010-2011. We hope you will continue to post to the GAFB Guestbook and attend the 2012 GAFB reunion if at all possible. I must apologize for things out of my control, because I have not been able to retrieve a password for BR Smith's guestbook. So I plan to rework the information and include all previous postings, but must take the guestbook down. I have tried this past year with BR's family (they are unable to find it) and the guestbook company that refuse to respond to my email. Thanks for your postings, email and pictures of GAFB and Greenville. Gary Flesher. :
