MessageHappy New Year, Deron. And a happy belated birhday to Max and Mark. I am praying that 2009 will be a year that brings good things to you and your family. Defining "good", I suppose, is a matter of perspective. What I am thinking right now is a set of lungs before it is too late.
I realize that God may define good differently - for sure He has it in mind when David says, "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

I am away from my computer at work for a few days but will be checking your blog. Your cough sounds miserable; I hope it will settle down. Is it part of a cold or illness or part of the chronic CF picture? I know you are particularly concerned about flu at this time of year.

MessageDeron -As always, I look forward to checking your blog site. No news on your mom must mean that things are progressing as expected for this moment in time.

Since I am one of those who have found your attitude and perseverance "inspiring", it was interesting to read your comments on what you think is truly inspiring. Probably none of us is ever inspired by our own behavior - would seem rather egotistical - but I think you can have an inspiring impact on others even as you react in the only way you think is reasonable or possible.
That very action reminds others to deal with their stuff, to examine their faith, to look at the broader picture, to make the most of the moment, etc. I went to the dictionary and looked up inspire - found words like "having an animating effect upon; influence or impel; to motivate; to arouse or produce a thought or a feeling." So rest assured that you are indeed having an effect on those around you, inspiring others to persevere, to trust, to appreciate and live life fully while we have the opportunity. Good mood or bad, the key is that you endure, finding good and challenge regardless of circumstances. Most people face more mundane struggles than torture, persecution, etc. - seeing people survive extremes in faraway settings is indeed inspirational but is somewhat remote from the experience of most. Facing illness and an uncertain future is something more can immediately identify with. Thanks for honestly sharing your journey with us.

MessageDear Deron -
We are staying put tonight with the winds so strong. When I went over to church for something this afternoon, I had to step through a fairly high drift to get to the side door. I wonder what it will be like in the morning. Our family gathering was cancelled in MPLS today and our second son and family didn't dare venture from Duluth, where it has been snowing steadily for two days. Minnesota winters - something magical but also something dangerous.

I am glad the weather was good for your trip to the U on Thursday - and that the report on lung function was good. The lurking kidney trouble and "bugs" are worrisome I am sure. I still don't understand this transplant list stuff. You wonder if there are some politics involved as well as all the objective stuff. I know it gets frustrating to keep getting vague answers. Our prayer will continue to be provision of lungs - though it wouldn't be helpful to have anything come available in this wicked stretch of weather.

We are thankful your mom is doing well.

Beth

MessageHi Deron, I checked out your site to hear the latest on your mom. Glad to hear that the operation went well. She's in my prayers and so are you. Enjoyed seeing the pictures of your family and reading about you. I was wondering if you had ever considered a transplant from a living donor. My daughter-in-law's cousin got a lobe from her uncle and one from her aunt. That was about 10 years ago and she is doing fine. She even gave birth to a girl who must be about six or seven by now. Well, I will check your site for up-dates on your mom.
