Messagei remember the sinking of the Oceanos, i was stationed at 15 SQN, Durban, South Africa Airforce when the call came in to respond to the sinking of the Oceanos, many helicopters responded from different bases, the commitment of ground crews and exceptional flying skills of the aircrews, contributed to the saving of many lives.

MessageHi I was on the Oceanos with my ex husband and 3 children. Our names are Nixon Logan, Sandra, and my three children Gareth, Jonathan and Lisa Logan. Lisa was only 11 months old when we were on the stricken ship. It was a total nightmare for us as she was the only baby hoisted off the lifeboat onto the Great Nancy. We had a very traumatic experience.

MessageHi Rose, The Australian summer has finished and it's a dull wet day on the east coast of Australia, but its a perfect day to surf the net which is why I came across your site. Congratulations on a wonderful site, without which, I would never have known about the ships sinking. I'm especially interested since I was a crew member onboard various Greek cruise liners between 1974 - 1982. My first ship the "Australis" also sank at a later time. In 1979 I was onboard the "Oceanus" whilst working for Southern Club Games (UK) they employed casino/photographic staff. I remember quite a few people from that time and have great memories, so if any one remembers me??? drop me a line and catch up. smilie

MessageHey Moss,
I was just surfing through youtube when I came upon an Oceanos video. I proceeded to look into all the blogs and sites pertaining to the disaster and rescue.
Wow.
Great job that day. Way cool on keeping your wits about you!
Have you taken another cruise since?
All the best,
Phil

MessageGeorge I totally agree with you. My mom and dad used to sail on the Union Castle back in the 50's, I remember they sailed from Durban to Beira in Mozambique - I think I still have some of the Menus my mom kept from then, I must try and find them and scan them in.

MessageAs someone who sailed as an engineer officer for about 15 years - 7 of those on Union Castle liners - I'm amazed at what I read. How any professional engineer could sail with those faults in the engine room which you describe I just don't know. What about your own life , never mind anyone else. As for the captain? words fail me, an arrogant S***t.
