MessageBig fan, always. Knew a couple of the jocks; worked on a commercial with Mr Hyde a few years back.
Whatever happened to Rick Quinn (Tony Bigg)? I mean AFTER he was Tony Pigg. I get the sense that he was a bit apart from the rest of the jocks.
At any rate, I was there. And I miss it. Thanks to you all.

MessageWhat a great site. I remember visiting the KROY studios twice while I was in school - when I was in 4th grade, during a Bob Sherwood shift, and I distinctly remember him playing a Bobby Sherman song while we were there. The second time was in 8th grade, and we were all given a copy of the late, lamented magazine "Zoo World."

Tons of memories about the station - one that sticks in my mind to this day is the Santana song that Chuck Roy always played at the end of his show.

MessageLoved the stroll down memory lane! I was a KROY Cheerleader 78-80. We had so much fun working at Cal-Expo, handing out freebies at Folsom Lake and attending KROY functions. I would love to hear from other Cheerleaders...are you out there? Does anyone have any photos? I have a newspaper article for the March of Dimes walk. I still have a uniform and swimsuit that we wore to our Folsom Lake visits! Love that radio station!

MessageI have to say I got chills when the initial page opened up and I heard the K-R-O-Y jungle. It was truly a wonderful time to be a kid in Sacramento, regardless of all the crazy things we went through as a country, KROY made things so much fun. My hat is off to all of you, Johnny Hyde ( who I feel personally introduced me to the Beatles) Chuck Roy (the DJ from KROY) Wonder Rabbit (Eat a Banana) and all the rest that made it such a great ride.
Somehow listening to Rush Limbaugh just doesn't quite have the same pazazz. No offense Rush ( yeah like he is going to read this)

MessageWonder Rabbit ... where are you when you are needed? There are carrots and celery waiting in the backyard for you to munch on. Or if you prefer a huge, juicy steak.
You know your way to the vegetable patch so come on over.
Oh, and don't forget that skinny little broad that hangs around you all the time.

smilie

MessageIn response to the previous note from "Zasu," I have some sad news to report. Bob Castle, who held down evening and afternoon-drive shifts at KROY from 1973 to 1977, has died. You can find details on the "what's new" page on the 1240kroy.com Web site.

MessageWord has come down that the "Blue Whiz" is no more courtesy of the Sacramento board on Radio-Info.

Sure hope it's someone's sick idea of humor and that Bob Castle is still among us. Who wouldn't remember his time on the PMs back in the '70's?

If anyone confirms this, please post a URL to a memorial. If it's untrue, then there's a special place for people like this. It involves a place in the afterlife surrounded by market managers from Clear Channel.

Go in peace, Bob. Lord knows you didn't get enough while you where with us.

MessageI see I'm not the only Buffalo Burch fan! His first name was/is "D ick", btw. I loved all his sound effects. I never missed his oldies show Saturday afternoons. I had a lot of his stuff on tape when I was young but alas, tape deteriorates and parents clean rooms of departed offspring.

I lived in Roseville so listening was a problem at night. Ah, the good old days. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be!
