Thank you for visiting my guest book. Thanks to those who have signed it, stating who you're looking for, and about your roots. Do you know the province or area in Poland your family was from? Did your relatives immigrate to America, another country, or is your family still in Poland? I love hearing other people's stories. I find it inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Julie

Note:  In the blog title section, under "pages" there is now a "blog title surname index" page. This index I created is for names you write about. If you would like your guestbook post to be a blog post, let me know and I'd be happy to share your story.

MessageHi Michele,
Thank you for signing my guestbook. Your surnames have been added to my guestbook surname index page. Thank you for describing where your family is from, and describing mountains. I wanted to mention something about the surname Voytecek. I have been searching for Marianna and Joseph Wojtas in Minnesota. I was told to keep in mind the surname Voytecek, and Woytecek, variations of the name Wojtas, in the States. And I have seen that spelling in Minnesota, just not matching anything I was looking for.

I highly recommend keeping an eye on the Polish record collections at familysearch.org. (link on my blog) Vital records from Poland are showing up there with over a million records there now, the latest update only 3 days ago. When you search for Slavic surnames, soundex searches don't really work, because Soundex is based on English. But familysearch has done some things on their search engines to pull up things with similar phonetic spellings for that language. So when I search Wojtas on familysearch, the name Voytecek does show up, as well as others I would not have though to try spelling. The records on familysearch are free and always will be. It is indexed by volunteers to keep the records free and accessible to all interested. I hope maybe you'll find some helpful records there soon, if they aren't there already.
Best wishes in your continued searches.

MessageHi Edward,
Thank you for signing my guestbook. I'm sorry you weren't able to know your grandparents. You mention you had family in Zywiec in the 1930's. Do you know where your family went and if (and how) they returned? Or if they moved to another place? For people raised in the United States and not alive during World War II, it is something we don't know or find much information about. But it is important to know the answers to find more about your family. I understand now that a lot of people in Zywiec were sent to Auschwitz when the Nazi's invaded in 1939. Not just Jews, but Catholics too. Jozef Sanetra (pictured at the top of the blog) was in Zywiec, but unfortunately he died before I was able to ask him any questions like this. See blog post 29 Aug 2010, or click on the tag "Auschwitz", about records now becoming available.

Your family surnames have been added to the guestbook surname index. I will send a copy of this message to your email.
Thanks,
Julie smilie

MessageHi Joseph,
Thank you for signing my blog. I am sorry you are not able to know very much about your family. I do believe I can help you, & I will email you. There are several record collections I can think of that will help to you:

1) Jewish birth, death & marriage records on Jewish Geneaology site, footnote.com, and ancestry.com
2)There are several different immigration record collections: from Poland to US, from Poland to Canada, from Canada to The United States
3) military records
4)New York naturalization records online on Footnote.com
5)Familysearch.org is digitizing and indexing some Polish Catholic church records right now. The collection has over 1 million records, the latest update was 3 days ago.

I have searched these records a lot, and will look for your relatives here. There may be a few records I cannot get, because they are more recent & I am not related. In that case, I'll tell you how to get them. With you being closely related the record copies can be given to you.

MessageHi Sonya,
Thanks, I am glad you've enjoyed my blog. You write that you were searching for the name Matuszewski, and that your grandparents names were Stella Matuszewski and Michael Matuszewski. I know you spell it slightly different, but names changed, being written incorrectly after moving to the United States. Are you by chance related to Stella Mathuszewska, married to Micheal Sanetra? If not, I would keep in this other possible spelling of Mathuszewska, when searching for your family name. Best wishes in your searches.
