| Message | I had the EXACT same experience with my extremely religious, extremely homophobic parents when I came out in Mississippi in 1990, except I chose truth and honesty over security. I have NEVER regreted my decision. I hope and pray that this young man will find the strength and courage to follow his truth, his nature. If his parents truly love him they will eventually come around. I know this because ANYONE can come around if my parents can. Even if they don't it's their decision and their loss not yours. All the love in the world from your parents sill not make you happy if you live everyday in a lie. And if your parents can only love and accept you if you are straight, or pretend to be straight, then it's not YOU they love anyway, it's someone who doesn't exist that they actually love. It will be impossible to be happy when you know this to be true.
Just be true to yourself and know that the God of grace, peace, love and compassion loves you JUST the way you are; just the way He created you.
Love is NEVER a sin.
Bigotry, selfishness, homophobia, hate and causing unnecessary harm to others, especially one's own children, IS a sin.
To bad their are no Christian reorientation camps dedicated to changing these people.
Bryce, you will be in my daily thoughts and prayers.
Oh, and by the way, my parents and I have the BEST relationship we've ever had and it is based in 100% honesty. On top of that, I'm the chairman of deacons (moderator) at my UCC church. |
