MessageAl and Ingert are the best, enjoyed working for them all those years. Al was the best boss I ever had-never asking me or any other employee to do anything he wouldn't do, including cleaning up after a customer became sick at the table. He always went to bat for the waitressess and calmed many teary eyed girls. One of my best memories of Al is him running around the restuarant with a blue rag sticking out of his back pocket clearing and wiping tables as fast as he could sayng "turnover girls thats what its all about" and it was! One Fall evening Ingert turned down the dining room lights for atmosphere making it hard for one customer to see-so he promptly took out his lighter and accidentally set his menu on fire. Oscar the lead goat did fall off the roof in front of the prime corner table to the horror of the customers-911 was called -he was treated by the medics and treated for a broken leg-which healed nicely. All the goats did periodically escape off the roof and parade down the main street. My son Rick and Rolf usually had the job of herding them back. My only waitress nightmare was waking up at 2 in the morning remembering someones milk I forgot. Thanks Al and Ingert for some great memories.-

MessageI still have waitress nightmares, too, but more about the waitresses than from actually being one. (Only kidding.) Actually, I think I did have to wait tables more than a few times after the waitresses who were supposed to open showed up late, often still in their clothes from the night before. Of course, they might have had to cook a few times, too, when we exchanged the favors. Memories include some good Local 101 Union meetings; "jockularity;" GI nights; pine tarring,; sharing quiet time with Al and Ingert; writing and reading the diaries (still there somewhere?); looking for Rolf when he got lost a few times; sending someone for a bucket of steam (good memory); going to fetch a bucket of steam myself (not so good memory); convincing one of the busboys that Ingert wanted the goats' butts scrubbed with the coffee pot brush, and watching him try to do it; going to Al's Appreciation Night at the Tap, dressed as the roof, etc. Thanks for a great start on life, Al and Ingert. Hope to see you there.

MessageMemories of working at Al's?? Mostly nightmares, just recently stopped having! Probably the funniest memory was of "twinkle-toes" Hoffmann carrying a tray up to the salad bar, had to be there. Another was seeing a female employee (a local girl)throw a wet rag through the dining room and promptly getting fired for it. Or maybe it was swimming after work, late at night, with Kathy Vangamert (sp?). Those were fun times. Honestly, I always appreciated all that Al did for me growing up. That job paid for all my college and a car. See ya!

MessageNo - the waitress nightmares never ever go away. I remember election night in April. Robin (Olson) Seaquist and I were the only ones on. The place filled up. No salad bar, hostess, or busboy. I think I'm permanently brain damaged from that night. Also the kitchen putting fake (naughty) notes on the board because they knew Corrine Sitte would peek at them. Gotta miss Corrine. And poor Cory Burress coming out of the bathroom with her uniform tucked into the top of her pantyhose. And don't forget to keep those shoes polished, and uniform ironed. Great work ethic! Candy Church told me the other day - remember "If you have time to lean, you have time to clean". See you there!

MessageOh boy! I'm so happy to be back within driving distance of DC! This is great - I look forward to reconnecting with everyone and meeting new people. Gosh, memories...I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed "altering" the specials, specifically, the "California" vegetables. Oh, and parsley...don't forget that garnish! Wait, and then packing on the pounds because, for some reason, those french fries were nothing short of spectacular...and very conveniently located. And then who can forget sitting at the picnic tables eating pancakes with strawberries. And then there are those darn complete dinners and hot chocolates that oftentimes put you in the weeds. Nothing but love for that place and the "family" we remain.
