Who are you?Eldest son of WW II Army vet
Where you from?South Bay region Southern California
Are you a Veteran?Yes, 366th TFW Vietnam 71-72
MessageA very BIG THANK YOU 1st to our vets of all US conflicts, next to Capt. Earl Morse (USAF Ret.) for starting this organization & finally to Tom for running the NorCal hub. My father served in the 5th Inf Div in Europe & passed away without seeing the WW II Memorial. I've had the privilege of visiting W DC & spending time personally thanking the WW II vets at THEIR MEMORIAL for their sacrifices. I will never make another trip to DC w/o paying my respects to those who have served our country. THANK YOU!!

Where you from?Originall Boston, Ma.
Are you a Veteran?Yes WWII U.S. Navy Amphibious Force
MessageI was a ships Cook serving on an LST For those of you who do not know what an LST is just picture the movies you've seen of the invasion - the large ships on the beach with bow doors open are LST's = Landing Ship Tanks. Or, as we used to call them "Large Slow Targets" since with flat bottoms we had a top speed of only about 30 knots

We participated in the invasions of Saipan and Tinian in the Marianas and Pellelieu in the Palau group.

I would love to see the Memorial. I am 85 yrs old and able to get around on my own without the eed of help from gUARDIAN

MessageMy Dad is a WWII Navy Vet who served on an LCI in the Pacific. He's now 90 years old and I'm hoping to get him to see the WWII Memorial. He was my inspiration for joining the Navy during the Vietnam War. He is my hero, not just as a veteran, but as a father. Love ya Dad.

Who are you?Retired Navy Storekeeper Chief
Where you from?Boston, MA/ San Diego,CA
Are you a Veteran?12/24/42 - 6/01/66
Messagesmilie I was a member of an advanced Supply Group, sent to Milne Bay, New Guinea and later Samar, in the Philippies. We loaded and unloaded ships from New Zealand and Australia ferrying supplies to the forward combat zones. Since segregation was still in full bloom, I witnessed Race Riots in both Islands. Very sad to see friends die only because of color. I am 85 now and have never been able find any discussions of what the Navy Supply Units contributed to the War Effort. Also, I wonder if there is still anyone "out ther" who was in Milne Bay NG or Samar PI, 1944-45. Only two of us left, that I know of.

Who are you?W W 2 VETERAN OF IWO JIMA & OKINAWA
Where you from?I live in Oakland,Ca. and was born in El Paso,Tx.
Are you a Veteran?YESSIREE
MessageI was a member of the US Navy Amphibious Battalion on board
the USS Hinsdale APA 120. I landed on IWO JIMA at Blue Beach
and after being relieved by another Battalion; we went back to our ship and took many wounded to GUAM for hospital services. After
leaving Guam, we went to Saipan and picked up the 2nd. Marine
Div. for the Okinawa invasion. We were hit by a Kamikazi suicide
plane with 2 bombs on April1st,1945,Easter Sunday,April Fools
Day;we were towed to Kerama Retto and after the hole in our ship was repaired,we were towed to Mog Mog in the Caroline Islands. After one Engine was repaired,we sailed to Hoboken,N.J.(Sinatras)
home town.We arrived in Hoboken on 2 July,1945.We stayed there for a complete Overhaul and repairs. After 30 leaves for our crew, the WAR was over and we made one last trip to
Sasebo,Japan and picked up about 1000 Soldiers and took them to San Francisco for discharge as the War was over and they wanted to go HOME. We then made our "LAST" trip on the
"HINSDALE" TO Newport News,Va. for De-Commissioning and
removing our ship from the Navy Register. We all left our ship
in May 1946, after turning it over to the Maritime Commission.
I was separated from the Navy with a "Battleship" discharge.
After the Korean War broke out, I entered the Merchant Marine Service and sailed to Pusan,Korea on board as part of the crew
of the USNS Mission Carmel (a tanker carrying aviation gasoline)

Who are you?interested in volunteering
Where you from?Hanford, Ca. 93230
Are you a Veteran?Richard (yes)
MessageRichard & I are interested in volunteering with the "Honor Flight"program. He is a viet nam vet and both our fathers were WWII veterans. Do you have a chapter in the central valley area (we live outside of Fresno) where we could attend meetings and help out in some way? We have had the privledge of visiting both the viet nam and WWII memorials in D.C. but our dads never had that opportunity. In May, Richard rode a motorcycle in "The Ride To The Wall". He only got to go half way but said every stop they made they were greeted like heros.Totally different then when he returned from Viet Nam in Dec. 1969. Next year he will ride all the way to D.C. and I plan to meet him at some point and ride into D.C. with him. Please give us as much information about the program as possible.

Sincerely,

Linda Knapp
