Tom very kindly forwarded this to me. I have to say, I thought the tree idea was an excellent one!Imagine if it has a hand in his fate and he becomes an ecologist / tree surgeon / olive grower in Italy - yum!

Anyway, thank you all for making me feel so welcome : It was good to meet you all as Tom has talked a lot about Edmund.

I noticed you have lots of pictures of churches on your site : I once got my Mum a very interesting book (which you may know about already) called 'How to read churches' or something like that which you might find interesting.

Helen

MessageMartin,
Retirement must completely agree with you and certainly gives you the opportunity to keep a most interesting blog up to date. The photos are outstanding. Today we especially enjoyed seeing the likeness of Thomas and also of Agnes and Ida which you posted a few days ago.
A visit to Portugal is highly recommended. In my navy days, I served in ships which visited Lisbon on numerous occasions. Every visit was most enjoyable. My Dad's cousin, who we visited in France last spring, spent most of her youth there, going to England only for summer holidays. Now in her mid 80s, she still continues the trend. She has spent several weeks recently in Yorkshire, partly, I think because she finds the summers in the Bordeaux area a bit too hot.
While in France in March, we ate with silverware from the Royal Portguese Palace. When the Monarchy fell, local residents apparently purchased items of value from the palace with the intent of giving them back when the monarchy was restored. Of course that never happened and my Dad's cousin still has the flatware which was bought by her mother.
Best wishes to you and to Caroline and all the others.
Bruce.
