| Message | As a Taiwanese New Zealander, nearly everything you've described here I have to agree. After having been in New Zealand for 5 years of my early childhood and then moving back to study in Taiwan for 4 years and then back to New Zealand, I have only realised that four years of my life were wasted on something that I do not value at all. All the positive values that were ingrained in me in my earlier years just could not be put to use. It is as sick, twisted, and demented as you could call it. And yes I found it really hard to "be myself" in that sort of society where they don't appreciate individuality but condemn or demean individual endeavors and characteristics. That was what I have been feeling for quite an extended amount of time. I appreciate your work here on this website and being true to your own heart and speak for your own truth. There are lots of challenges ahead of me to redevelop these courageous, loving qualities that I truly valued. |

| Message | I just read your observations about Taiwan which was a long read where you repeated parts a few times but was nevertheless a good read. Reminds me a lot about China and Chinese parents. About the Taiwanese travel show you're probably right, even though i've never seen it. Most of the shows shown in the mainland are also hosted by beautiful airheads which annoys the shit out of me. If i want to see beautiful women i can watch a p*rn movie or whatever. I do think there are some good travel programs in Taiwan. I remember there's one with that Ming Dao dude, he has some sensible comments and is outgoing which is rare. Taiwan/China is also not THAT bad like you describe but that's probably cause you're not in your favorite social circle. And if you're not you're f*cked cause it's not so easy to chat up people in the bar or make friends. Keep on writing  |
