Thanks very much indeed for this website. I hugely enjoyed the book and the movie and was somehow saddened realising that the beautiful art of letter writing is being devoured by the likes of Facebook and 140-character long Twitter feeds! Or may be it has been devoured already. I guess denial is my best antidote.

I have just seen the movie and loved it so looked information on it on the computer and ...here I am. I also love old books plus I am a Librarian! I am 66 and only work half time but want to work till I am 80! So sad that the main characters never met but maybe that is what made the film so appealing. Thanks for this website.

What a fantastic find. Have loved the book since its publication, and have just booked to see an amateur production with three friends (who have never heard of the book). I read that the apartment block Helene Hanff lived in for many years is now called "Charing Cross House". You can see it on google earth!

Just watched the Books film "84 Charing Cross Road again tonight with my wife. It was so wonderfully well done. Mel Brooks wife Anne Bancroft played Helen. According to her, she convinced husband Mel to do the film as an act of love. As a moviemaker, it is hard enough to raise money to make a movie. So this inspired act of kindness will be rewarded as a mitzva.

I visit Charing Cross Road, whenever, I am in London. It is my pilgrimage as a book lover to the mecca of books. I go to Foyle's and Blackwell's, but I always pause at the corner in the memory of the members of Marks & Co. book store. Times have changed and now we have books on line, but, the fragrance of knowledge emanating from books lined in a book store is eternal. In life, I have found, that the best of friends are books, who are there to solace you in the "best of times, and the worst of times." To all my friends at 84 Charing Cross Road, who did not even know me, I say, Thanks for the Memories and God Bless."

Would anybody out there have an inkling where Helen Hanffs most wonderful collection of books is now? I would had to think they are split up as thie is what would happen to most private collections. As to myself I love second-hand books and enjoy browsing through all these 84s. A couple of years ago I sent Helene Hanff a book titled Poems on the Underground and she most kindly responded and invited me to tea but then I never made it which I deeply regret now. I treasure her letter and keep it in my edition of her wondrous book. Heino Günther

I just watched the movie and loved it and wanted to know more about the Helene and Frank and the book shop. While I was watching the movie I felt I was watching a movie about my self9. I love books, especially old books. My favorite past time is browsing used book stores. I hate to think what will happen to books with all the new e-readers coming out. For me there is nothing that can replace the feel of a hard back book. Thank you for this wonderful website.
