MessageHi,

My heart felt thanks for standing up against corruption. Accountability has never been on the agenda of a civil servant or a politician in India, nor will it be anytime soon unless citizens demand it.
My humble suggestion:
1. Media has to be made more accountable first. They should stop trying to be politically correct or have saving their skin approach. They have to expose corruption as it happens and follow it up. They tend to go after the one or two sensational cases and stop following them after a point (plays into the delaying tactics of our babus and netas)

2. Have mechanisms to discourage routine bribery, which a common man helps to sustain. How many of us have paid bribes just to get things done on time even though we had done everything right ! I suggest a straight forward approach. Demand the government to require every single government office to have a posting (Displayed in the office) giving the list of services offerred in that particular office and the maximum number of days needed for each service to be completed. If I want an electricity connection I go to the EB office. I submit an application. I see on the listing that I should have an answer in 14 days. If I dont get the approval in 14 days, I simply submit a complaint. If an office has 10 or more complaints against them there is an automatic enquiry.
I guess I reached the word limit. If anybody thinks this can be done please contact me. Thanks

MessageThank you for doing this, it is a very brave initiative. It would be nice to find ways to get the expats working together to contribute towards fighting the issue of coruption, i for one am very proud of our country, insipte of the corruption because of its honest, hardworking and brilliant people. we need to get constructive ideas to mobilize this population to utilize their voices to rid India of this corruption. I would suggest starting a "letters to the governor / President" webpage or link in your site, so we can address this issue and show our support for your husband.

MessageI truly commend your effort and your husbands effort.

India (especially Karnataka) has become a laughing stock even internationally. I hail from Bangalore and am sometimes ashamed at the feedback I get from my friends and colleagues when they visit Bangalore on business. Politicians in Karnataka are concerned purely about themselves and their big fat bellies. Infrastructure in Bangalore has become dismal rendering this once glorious city to shambles.

Politicians in India (and especially Karnataka) are purely self-serving and unless you are corrupt, you cannot make headway in your career. How then do people expect youngsters to get into the IAS? To lead a decent life in Bangalore, one must be prepared to grease the palm of individuals all the way. Is this what democracy in India gives us?

I am sorry about the rambling, but it is frustrating. People close to me say, "What's the point in complaining from the US, come here and do something about it". Until now, I did'nt think anyone would step up and take the courageous step to expose corruption. For that, I salute you and your husband. I have forwarded the NY Times article to other friends so they become aware of this as well.

God be with you. I hope the corrupt officers in Karnataka fuel their own downfall.
