MessageI repeat there is no moral question mark over my team. You're bringing up a different strategy in a different pool with different rules. I have no issue with tanking but this pool has a specific rule in place against it, so it's a non-issue.

But nice mud-slinging campaign... but you did forget to mention that 1 other team in the pool used the same strategy at the same time and 1 team saw the strategy and put in into place the next month, so basically it was a 3 way race to the bottom, also 1 other team has used it since.

I won't stoop to GM Ethically Challenged's level and continue to air the other pools dirty laundry in this banter even though his guinch in the other pool have plenty of dirt.

With friends like these who needs enemas... smilie

MessageFirst of all I haven't done anything yet, and the mere fact that i've tried to run it by everyone before pulling something off tells you I think it's a little slimey. But before GM Riley comes off as the innocent new guy I'd like to gather an opinion from the rest of the league on whether the following actions would be tolerated in the FHL.

In the inaugral 2003-04 season of the Franchise Pool Phil and I co-commish (that's tale for another time), Phil sat in last place at the end of November. For his December roster moves, Phil moved Hossa, Iginla, Tanguay, Zetterberg and Savard to his bench and replaced them with Hartnell, Mellanby, Allison, Daze and Scott Young. Most of these inserts were either injured or enjoying 30 point campaigns.

Phil ended up in 2nd last place, at least two spots lower in the standings than he would have had he put his best lineup on the ice. He selected Malkin 2nd in the prospect draft, ahead of two teams that deserved to pick higher in the draft that's supposed to help the weak teams.

He has removed the moral question mark from his team because he sees nothing wrong with this, not a grey area but a strategic manoever to benefit his team.

I don't have a problem with Phil selecting a team of teenagers. I have a problem when he either can't put an active 12/6/2 lineup on the ice month after month or as the talent on his team matures his better players are put on the bench.

I can't wait to stop my whining and get expansion underway.

MessageConsider this my official commitment (to offer Dan whatever "reassurance" he needs in order to continue in the pool with the least amount of integrity he can possibly get away with) that I will be icing the best possible team I can. I have no intentions outside of using every pick to take the best possible FHL player available. So there is no moral question mark hanging over my team... we will see about yours.

I would like to move that we add the "immoral but not illegal" issues into the punishable offences in the same way that tanking by vote can result with the loss of draft rankings. i.e. "expansion draft dodging" when Dan trades his guys to someone without depth and gets a similar deal back after the draft minus "premium paid" of course that he pays some line of penalty...it seems that's what GM Duke is looking for to keep his questionable pool ethics in check.

Furthermore I'll add that he has no grounds whatsoever to suggest that I plan to ice a team of babyfaced non nhl'ers given the fact that my current roster while young are all expected to be NHL active this year. The fact that the expansion process leaves the new team in a building phase should quite clearly be taken into consideration when the morally questionable GM starts pointing the "tanking" finger. Of course my team does not expect to compete for the title in it's first year, and nor should it. But I guarantee that it will be the best possible FHL team I can put together. Dan fears it already!

MessageIf Phil wants to roll the dice on 27 pre teens, taking the chance that a few of them turn into NHL players, and finish last for the next 15 years, I wont mind taking his money if I win a few titles in that time. He can run down last years draft list for all I care to fill out his roster.

MessageAaah the 'ol moral dilemna in a hockey pool.. that's what i kind of thought. Often times creative strategies cross over those boundaries. I'm not sure what part of "my original players would not return to my team" isn't understood, but I wouldn't expect Goon to understand the benefit or the premium i'd be willing to pay to give up a lower caliber player in round 1 and 3 anyway smilie Just gettin' you riled up Goon.. Personally I'd agree it is underhanded, much like "tanking". So I'd like to see a commitment from our expansion team to dress a monthly lineup 100% active in the NHL. Failing to gain this reassurance, I would have a hard time feeling bad about using the expansion format to the advantage of a trading and myself and the disadvantage of said expansion GM. Let's set the standard now before a lineup of 17 year old's gets first pick in every draft until the lineup grows facial hair.

MessageSo you want to hide players on another team. Underhanded - yes, illegal - no. Who's gonna be dumb enough to fall for that though... smilie
