MessageWith a week to go before staging its tribute to Rifleman Peter Aldridge, Folkestone Invicta Football Club is delighted at the public response so far. An attendance well into the thousands is expected.

Amongst official guests on the night will be the Mayors of Croydon, Folkestone and Hythe, representatives of the Lord Lieutenant, emergency services, St John's Ambulance, The Royal British Legion and the RAF Association, the Football Association and the Ryman League. The Club has in the past few days received messages of support from the Commanding Officer of 4 Rifles (Rupert Jones), the Rt Hon Michael Howard QC MP and Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood.

Club Chairman Mr Lynn Woods is sure the official response will be matched by public support for its tribute. "We are very humbled that Mr and Mrs Aldridge and their family will be with us on Tuesday and we hope they will be comforted and lifted to know how much the loss of their son is felt by the community he served."

News of the Club's tribute has reached Afghanistan where Folkestonian and Invicta fan Ian Saunders serves as a Warrant Officer at Kandahar Air Base. "Ian tells us that our recognition of Peter Aldridge is a great morale booster for the service people still out there and facing ongoing danger from the continued insurgency".

There is a musical flavour to the Club's commemoration, with the Sir Roger

MessageAgree with Chris decent performance, and shows we can compete against the best in the league, just need to do it more consistancy.I think it shows over the last 4 weeks or so that apart from the Dulwich game Graham has installed some belief in the players and they have responded.2 games to go lets try and put in two decent performances, looking forward to Saturday already.

MessageBrilliant performance yesterday fellas! A thoroughly deserved point and we could even have nicked it. Against a side well in contention, this shows just what MFC can do. Congratulations to all, it was great to be there.

Apparently we have a game Saturday..? Bring it on!! "One team in Surrey, there's only one team in Surrey!"...Come on Merstham!

MessageWell after the dissapointing result and performance against Dulwich on Saturday losing 3-1 ( Dulwich also won yesterday )particualy after the recent performances, yesterday was more like it with a gritty 2-2 draw with Whyteleafe.Football can be so frustrating and most of the goals we are letting in are, like the two yesterday when we make a mistake we are being punished and yesterday was no differant. However after dominating the early stages we took a deserved lead through a cracker from Dale Marvel and Whyteleafe offered no threat until the O.G and then a floated cross that decieved Chats in the wind and a gust took it in at the far post, how undeserved. You could see the dissapointed in the lads and the management team, they did not deserve that, but like most recent performances they came out second half and created numeous chances and took the game to leafe but it looked like another one of those days, but thankfully Gavin managed to get on the end of a Whyteleafe mess up to give us a deserved draw, created enough chances to have won,and was pleased to see the effort and will to get something from the game, well done lads and credit to Graham, games and performance like this gives everybody hope for next season. smilie
