MessageI am a middle school band and orchestra director that has stepped in and tried to revive an extinct choral program at our school. I have one section of choir that will turn-over every twelve weeks. The students that are in the class did not sign up for it and all have different feelings for singing. I have been in several choirs...but never had to teach one before. Anything helps!!!

MessageHere's my delimma - I have an 8th grade choir of 17 girls and ONE boy. Last year I had 3 eighth grade boys who had been in choir since 5th grade, and whose voices had all changed. We were able to sing SAB and 3-part mixed pieces very easily. This year, though, the boy in 8th grade has not been in choir before. His voice is in the process of changing, but he does not know how to control it. The girls in the choir have not had a boy to sing with since 5th grade, so it is a new challenge for them as well. I do not want to put my ONE boy on a part by himself, especially when he is so unsure of what he is doing and when he is lone guy in the group. I have only been teaching choir for two years, and was an instrumental major in college. Anyone reading this have suggestions? Thanks so much for this great service and website!!!

MessageI teach in a small, rural, 245 student PreK-8th grade school. This year I have 9 kids signed up for JH choir (6th-8th grade) - 3 of them are boys! All of the kids are beginner singers with little to no music reading ability and little to no experience singing in parts. I want this little group to be the best that it can be but I need some great music for them to sing. I hope they learn to love singing and also develop as musicians. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

MessageOur middle school has just re-started choir after it died out 4 or so years ago. I have a small group (13 at last check), with some boys in it. I'm looking for fun quality literature that will help get them hooked on singing. I'm not necessarily looking to take them to contest yet this year, so I'm less concerned with fulfilling those requirements. If I can just get these kids to stay in choir as they get to H.S., I will be happy.
