I only knew her slightly through my association with Charlis but was struck by her professionalism, her humor, and the closeness of their relationship. I have come to know her more through this website. She certainly had a long and rich life and continues to live on in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to have had her in their lives. | Message | I wish to extend my condolences to Lois's family and friends. Diane and I were good friends when we were both students at the University of Illinois. In addition to living in the same dorm, we did volunteer work with children in a low-income neighborhood outside of Champaign, IL. Several years ago, Diane tracked me down with the assistance of her husband, Daniel. It has been one of my joys to reestablish our friendship. I remember meeting Lois when Diane invited me to go with her to Richmond over one of our school breaks when we were both students. I was welcomed into Lois and George's home. My favorite memory was playing table tennis. Peace to all. |

| Message | Just received notice of dear Lois' death......what a remarkable woman she was! She truly saved me from an abusive relationship in the 70's and afterward we enjoyed a warm and lively friendship. I actually helped her organize and catalogue the African collection. I painted her portrait (I hope it still exists!) for her birthday. We frequently shared meals in our homes and restaurants in Richmond, always talking non-stop about everything under the sun... She was my "second mother".....a wonderful role model and mentor to me, and although we hadn't seen each other since she moved to Whidbey Island, we kept in touch with cards, and e-mail.. When she did move, I incorporated her presence in my life in a more abstract way, and so, she will be with me always. My deepest sympathy to all her family. |

| Message | A website like this is very meaningful to those of us who find that Lois's presence in our lives is ongoing. I think of her often, but it's now also in the context of the memories we all shared at her memorial service. I appreciate very much the many pictures that are provided on the website.
