MessageHi!
I've been reading your response to kevinw on Help & Support and have run into the same problem.
"\\Computer A is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of thsi server to find out if you
have access permissions."
Only more frustrating is that sometimes they can read each other and other times they don't.
It is very frustrating!!!

Hi Joyce,

You might become less frustrated if you could start a new thread there. We are learning more with each participant.

Patience and persistence, and you might learn too.

MessageI have a XP Pro desktop and a XP Home laptop on a home network. I can set file and printer sharing on the desktop but it reverts back to disabled the next time I check it and I can't see the desktop shared files from the laptop. I can see the laptop shared files from the desktop. I recentely had and removd the java/byteverify virus. My Windows Restore points do not go back far enough to cover the period before the virus was discovered. Any suggestion on how to maintain the file and printer sharing setting?

Dave,

If this does involve a virus (or any malware), please get help, as outlined in my Malware article.

If this is a simple network issue, let's try to diagnose it in an open forum. See my Contact article.

MessageI like your site and I know I am going to be spending alot of time here because I like your attitude and I have a great need to learn this network stuff. I am just now trying to set up a home network. At work I leave the network stuff to the network people (professionals) but at home I (you) am the network person. I am going to try and use your site to empower me to solve any network problem I have. I have been programming off and on since 1969 on a IBM 1620 system that depeneded entirely on punched cards and Fortran. (The upper division got to experiment with a magnetic disk. (Just one platter.)) My last 27 years have been mostly Cobol and IBM mainframe experience. I am still employed in this but I am at the same time excited to learn new things. So many changes have happened yet I look forward to the future.

Currently at home I have two computers and trying to network them. A Gateway desktop and a Tosiba Satelite laptop. I have a Linksys router it has assigned two IP addresses. I can ping to x.x.x.100 but not x.x.x.101 (the Satelite). I cannot ping to x.x.x.101 even from x.x.x.101. I have tried alot of suggestions from everywhere it seems so I am going to back up my data and do a system restore on it to start fresh. I really expect this to fix it but if not I will be back here for more direction.

Thank you for donating your time and I will (see) you later.

MessageHi,
I resolved <a href="http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/ gt;The Mysterious "Error = 53" aka "Name Not Found"</a> with Remote registry service in W2K. This service is disabled by default in my configuration. But if you start it then browstat status command will return "clear" report.
My be add this information to Error = 53 page?
Thank you very much, this resource is really great knowledge base.
Regards,
Sergey

MessageThanks so much! The information you provided on classic file sharing with windows XP made my day. M$ was sketchy enough on the details that with that info I was unable to make it work (+ a little bug with service pack 2 I believe I found (not mentioned anywhere that I found)).
