What are the procedures to install a home network 3 pc's and a printer. The desktop OS is XP and the laptops use vista. I have a linksys Wirless-G Broadband Router w/Speedbooster 802.11g 2.4GHz and HP PSC 1610 printer. Internet access is through Time Warner cable.
Let me know if additional info is required.

Messageok I will use the online forum to post this question,but I hope you well help me please.I have a windows me desktop that I have a hp officejet v40 connected to it. I have a laptop with xp with the service pack 2 a friend some tme ago got it to find the printer but not through the network folder how he did this I do not know .I also now have a laptop with vista on it . I have the print and file sharing enable on the desktop. I can see the folders on it and the vista and I can access files but not the printer. In the network folder it shows the printer but if I click on it from the desktop it ask if I won't to install it and if I do that it puts it back in the printer folder as printer 2. My friend has move and I do not know any one who can help. Its seems that all the files to make it work is not there but the printer works find with the desktop and the laptop with xp . I did one time get the vista to print through the laptop with xp on it but then I fooled around with the computers and lost the connection not sure what other info. you might need but if you can help me it would be greatley appreciated.

to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found." were caused by Norton Internet Security 2007 Personal Firewall. My work around was to select Personal Firewall, Configure, Trust Control, Trusted and add each computer's IP address that I wanted to access.

Therefore I only needed the article's basic diagnostics first step.

I followed basic diagnostic step 4 and checked Enable NetBios over Tcpip to enable the computer icon to show under My Network Places...

Thanks for posting the help. PS I don't have Goggle email.

MessageHave been struggling all day with printing from vista to printer on xp box and getting access denied message. On MS forums found a reply made by yourself on same issue. The solution around creating a local port on the Vista pc worked just fine....can get some sleep right now. Thanks very much.

MessageI read your advice re Vista vs Win98 networking. Two comments;
Yes, technology advances, and it is not reasonable for Microsoft to have to maintain a ten year old operating system in perpetuity. But every "new" op system is so bulky that it is not possible to upgrade NOTEBOOKS. Unlike large boxes, they have severe limitations. But my Thinkpad 240X's work fabulously, except for the needless "fixes" to stuff which ain't broke, while the stuff which is continues to be repaired by forcing US to have to tell it that "it's OK" to do every stupid little thing.

I can still buy parts for a Model T, to say nothing of my Porsches. See comments above. Forcing me to have to go find out how to let my Win98 machines not crash every time they look at my ONLY Vista (which I would have refused had I know it was not the only choice, by the way!) while the Vista machine sees the Win98 OK, instead of telling me about the differences up front is an insult to their customer base. The EU was right to hammer them hard. That the USJD didn't is a shame, because this is arrogant. And, by the way, the Vista will not properly indicate when it actually connects to network resources if it has been Hibernated (excuse me - they HAD to call it another name; Sleep, JUST to confuse us!)

I have spent way too much time re-learning what I already knew since Win 3.1 to use this turkey. Now I will have to toss a hand grenade into Regedit and HOPE it works?!

MessageNice web site PChuck. I have not had much of a chance to check it all out but what I see so far, I like. Just a ritorical question. Why is it so difficult to get XP Home to network compaired to XP Pro.?
