| Message | Well - it seems a long time since I was with 3 Para. I first joined the Battalion in 1971, 4 platoon B Company (Murray Smith as Platoon Sergeant)which gave me a huge experience in a short time, next as Anti tank Platoon Commander with Baz Greenhalgh, Hayes, Haynes to name but a few!! Fortunate to come back as Coy Comd A Company with el presidentee as one of my corporals!! Brilliant to see some names that bring back so many wonderful memories of good .. and bad times. I completed my 36 years army service in South Africa as the Defence Adviser in Pretoria before leaving the Army officially on 10th Oct 2006. I always considered myself to be hugely fortunate in serving my regiment but the real privilege and pleasure was working with the 'toms' and really genuine people in our special club. I am not very good at keeping in touch as a rule but but I intend to join the Reunion Club in the hope that one day I will get to a reunion, meet up with life's characters who will force me to communicate!! | Message | This article appeared in the local paper and may be of interest. Preserved pensions. Veterans who served in the British Armed Forces since 1975 and did not qualify for an immediate pension may now be entited to a Preserved Pension. If you were serving on 6 April 1975 and you served 2 years or more after that date, you may now be eligible for a Preserved pension at the age of 60. If your service began after 5 April 2006 and you served a minimum of 2 years, you may be eligible for a Preseved Pension at the age of 65.
