| Message | Wow! I have been away for 2 short weeks and look what happens. I am American and my language is English. Please forgive me if I write in the language I am most comfortable with. You have all raised some interesting points for discussion in your most recent entries. Let me respond briefly to a couple. 1. Sex. All things are relative. I have been in VietNam for the past 2 weeks. Sex behind bushes, if discovered by the local police, could result in several years of hard labour in a prison camp, or worse. Here, on Angelo's blog, the topic has been based largely on moralistic grounds and going on the assumption that sex behind bushes is as simple as making a personal choice to do it or not do it. Sex is part of our human nature. Sex in open nature behind a bush, on the bank of a river, on a grassy field under a starlit sky or in the absolute privacy of the bedroom should be one's personal right. If necessity or whim leads to discreet sex in public places, should it be considered an offense against society? 2. Generalizations. I am American = I am bad? Wrong. I am American = I am an Asshole? Wrong again! I am an individual first and foremost. I, as a PERSON, am open minded, compassionate, tolerant. Generalizations based on stereotypes are easy but just as easily avioded. 3. Governments. They suck, the world over. People are just people, most often represented by governments that in no way represent the character of the people. Or...? |
