MessageYou don't "owe" your loyal readers anything. The most important thing is that you take care of yourself and feel better smilie

We can wait - We'll survive (somehow) without the daily updates to Petra's blog smilie .

MessageWell, one thing about going the northern route, you'd make good time through North Dakota -- nothing to see! Ha!

Except my birthplace, of course. You could stop and pay homage there.....

Sounds like you're going in June -- I remember snow storms in June and snow storms in August, but not all that many.

You probably could leave the snowshoes at home, and feel safe enough -- smilie

MessageSeptember 11. Ahhhhhh.

It was just a little after 6 am on the Left Coast. I was up, making coffee, already had my computer on but hadn't looked at it yet. My telephone rang -- which of course sent shivers up my spine. No one calls with any good news at that hour. It was Richard, a friend from Vancouver. There was no "Hello" or "How are you?" All he said was, "There are days like this when you really should have television."

I didn't have television -- but I did have the computer. I tried mightily to SEE what had happened, but at that early hour there was no live coverage, just still photos. I plowed thorugh news websites, now terrified about my son Peter, who lived in NY and worked in Manhattan, at Barnes & Noble's headquarters building. How far was his office from the World Trade Center? I had no idea.

Richard hung up and went back to his television, I kept combing the Internet and trying to call every number I had for Peter. It took seven hours until Sal finally reached him by cell phone. All I could do was cry -- relief, gratitude and of course the sheer horror of it all. Peter was too stunned to talk. He'd been looking out the window and had seen the second plane hit.

Like every other American, I'll never forget that day.

Living where I do now, you can understand my question: why do we continue to tolerate terrorism? Why do we keep funding it? Supporting it?

Today 63 people died in a Marriott suicide bombing in Pakistan.

Will it never end?

MessageThink how much more you would see if you went West instead of East. You could ship the cars across the Pacific, have a quick stop over in Hawaii. Then there is no limit, Great Wall of China, Pyramids, Notre Dame Cathedral, Big Ben, you name it. smilie
