MessageGlad to see Lisa has the document from Chinese Embassy in London. When I picked it up the staff did not speak much english and I could not tell what they had attached to the birth certificate. The only clear thing was the fee to pay.

Exactly the same fee was charged at the Foreign office ten days earlier. Well they are both monopolies and so there is no cheaper or quicker service for the very simple tasks involved. Well I say simple but the FO made mistakes such as giving me another persons documents and bypassing my number in the long queue because a clerk left his window.

There was one mistake though we topped them all.
So they do not all speak the local language but surely they know something about geography. The first piece of geography a small child learns is probably where they live. The Foreign Office department concerned has not moved recently yet it gives the wrong street on its information sheet.
