(Friday 0930) It says TGIF on the flying programme. A quick translation into plain English is Thank God It's Friday To be honest, I think that everyone is looking forward for the weekend. It's been a hard week. Otherwise, we just got back from the swimming hall, where our instructor, Per, taught us some good swimming techniques. It was hard but good We have briefing at 1000. I'm not on today's flying programme (so far, anyway!). You never know if they put you on the programme in the last minute. I wouldn't be surprised if I got the daily stand up once again, even though I just had my turn. They try to give you the stand up when you least expect it, so now would be a good time, since I had stand up last Wednesday. Now it's time to check my e-mail and relax a bit before briefing. Yesterday I had to pay a round of beer during the GFU meeting for having placed my feet on the table when we were sitting at the TV. Damn, it's way too easy to forget one of those (endless list of) rules that we have. But on the other hand, I don't think that I'll ever forget that one again! /GEA

(Thursday 1450) Just had lunch after the flight. The flight went ok. It included rolls, loop, pulling 4.5g's, simulated engine flame outs at 300 feet above ground (after take off), climbs, descents, traffic patterns, 7 touch and gos and a full top landing. Whoaaa, I was wasted afterwards! I got an 8 for the flight which is 'average.' In a way I'm hoping that I won't fly tomorrow, since next flight is TD10 (I just had TD6). Now the expectations from the instructor will rise drastically, so I really have to do it good from now on. I did a major screw-up during my last pattern: I forgot the 'before landing check' That's what probably cost me so much that I got a grade 8 for the flight. The instructor said that if I had been in a fighter, it would mean that I'd landed with the undercarriage up I just have to learn from the mistakes and move on...and do it better next time. That's it for now. /GEA

(Wednesday 1325) Most of the guys who were scheduled to fly have landed, but some are still in the air. I have just been visiting the tower together with BLI and NIT. Here are the class standings: Theory subjects: MEY has the lead with a stunning grade average. Myself, I'm just above the middle of the class: Flying: PLA has the lead and I'm trailing behind him as number 2. All in all, I'm satisfied. The goal is to be within the best third of the class, however it's no secret that most of us want to be the best. After all, we're all competitive and hard-working people. Apparently I wrote a little mistake yesterday. I remember as having won all table tennis games, however LOU brought to my attention that TIN and myself lost during the doubles against LOU and JAS but won against LOU and NIT. I was sure that we'd won, but then I checked it out with TIN and got it confirmed...that we lost one of the games that is... According to the programme there's going to be flying both tomorrow and Friday, so hopefully I'll get a trip one of the days. /GEA

(Wednesday 0950) We just had briefing, and guess who was 'the chosen one' for the daily stand-up: Yep, I pulled the short straw today. I had to go through the EP called 'Engine airstart, prop rotating.' It went well, actually better than I had expected. I had expected getting nervous when asked to stand up in front of the class, but it was actually easier than what the rumors say. So now I've tried the daily stand up Now I'm off to read some more Meteorology while the other guys fly, and maybe go visit the control tower too. Unfortunately there are no interesting aircraft visiting Karup today /GEA

(Tuesday 1500) Done for today. I was at the doctor earlier and got good news. I am not grounded anymore, so that's just great. If you read this, thanks mum and dad; You know what I'm talking about So afterwards I had a few good games of table tennis with my new bat (and won them of course) and then I was out running with the guys. The plan was to run around the perimiter of the base, that's just over 12 km!! I didn't think I could do it because of the chest pains, but I did, so I'm happy indeed. We ran the 12km in just over 1 hour. It feels great to be getting back on top. Then we got back to the school and to our surprise, we got the results for the tests from yesterday and from the one we had this morning. In Air Laws I only got 73.5% which is a pass, but I have to learn to RTFQ during exams. Oh by the way, 'RTFQ' means 'Read The Fucking Questions'. MEY came first in class with 99% correct. Well done! Thankfully, it went a bit better in the Navigation test. I got 98% which is best in class (shared), so I'm happy about that All that's left today is to go take a good shower, the daily cockpit-drill with PLA, dinner and ALOT of studying. Take care and check six... GEA

(Tuesday 1145) Just had lunch. The flying programme has been delayed until 1330 due to low cloud cover. To be honest I have a feeling that it's going to get cancelled once again. I think it's time to study some more EP's. Now we've been through all of them with our instructor, so we're expected to know them all. This morning during briefing, a guy was asked about 'Oil system failure' and he couldn't remember it...then it went on to another guy and he had problems too. In the end LOU took it since he knew it and was quite confident in it. Well done! When I pull the short straw and it's my turn to go through an EP, I need to know it 100%, so it's good to be prepared to the bone. /GEA

(Tuesday 0925) The Navigation test went fine, I answered all questions, however I'm sure that a couple of them were wrong. Then, after the test I got a little reward. I delivered my papers and went out of the classroom, and to my surprise, the Dutch KC10 did a touch and go again. So I grabbed my camera and got ready to take a picture. I waited paitiently for 10 minutes and there it finally was, emerging out of the morning fog and coming on late finals for yet another touch and go. And yes, I took a picture, so I'm happy indeed, even though the shot was quite foggy So far, it's a good day today. We have briefing in about 5 minutes time and then there's flying the rest of the day, not for me of course. I'm off to the doctor to find out what's going to happen, and more importantly, when. Catch u later... /GEA

(Tuesday 0735) The sun is shining outside and it seems like it's going to be doing so for quite a while at least. So now the question is whether they'll“put flying on the programme for the whole day, and postpone theory lessons to a day when the weather isn't so good. We were supposed to have a theory test in Navigation today, and no-one is exactly looking forward to it. However, everyone wants to get it over with and also to find out where we stand in the subject. The Air Laws test yesterday wasn't too hard, but somehow I managed to mix the position lights and anti-collision lights on an aircraft which will cost me 10 points Now it's just a question of waiting to hear the result... That's it for now. By the way, yesterday I didn't get the opportunity to take pictures of that RNLAF KC10. By the time the lesson had finished, the plane had flown away. /GEA

(Monday 1255) We have Flight Safety right now, and outside there's a RNLAF KC10 doing touch and go's on the main runway I've never seen one before so I'm dying to go out and take a few pictures. Let's hope that it'll be here for a few hours more... /GEA

(Monday 0845) The flying is cancelled for today, due to low clouds. So we have theory instead, and next on the programme is a test in Air laws. We knew that it was coming, but we didn't expect it today. Tomorrow or the day after we have a test in Navigation. Now it's time to brush up my knowledge in Air laws before the test. Catch u later... /GEA
