Message(Thursday 1445) So the rain turned into slush and the slush turned into snow and by the time I got out of the sim, the landscape was once again covered in snow. I'm really tired of this weather.
The sim went good - I learned a whole bunch and got another reptile for the collection. However I have been feeling like crap all day. I think I caught one of those stomach bugs that are around as I didn' feel like eating anything and felt drousy all night last night and all day today. The flying programme went from "Standby" to "Cease flying" so the tower closed and they sent us home. I think I'll go down to the bank and get a couple of things done now that I have the opportunity.
That's it for now.

Message(Thursday 1055) Another day with crappy weather. Rain, wind and low clouds so no flying once again. I do have a sim again though at 1240 and by the looks of it I'll have another one tomorrow. I'm still confident that I'll be airborne by the end of the week, especially considering that Saturday is a flying day this week. The only thing that can hold us back is if the weather doesn't improve.
Today's sim is another IF one, where I'll be doing point to points to holds, vectored departure and vectors for a VOR/DME approach and maybe an overshoot and get revectored for another attempt.

Message(Wednesday 2015) The sim went well even though I almost bored myself to death in there. But I learned a couple of new techniques and got a few good tips from the instructor whom I had never "flown" with before. At one point he gave me a 40kt wind to keep me busy in the holding patterns, but once you find the drift and correct to it, it's as easy as flying in no wind.
The weather kept raining all day so most flights got cancelled, which means that tomorrow's programme will basically be a copy of today's. It's ok, I know I'll get in the air very soon. I have another IF sim tomorrow and we have Navigation theory so at least I'll be busy with that stuff.
Mum, if you're reading, I got the parcel - Thank you!

Message(Wednesday 1230) As I mentioned yesterday I didn't make it to today's flying programme but I have a sim at 1400. It turned out to be ok as the weather is really crappy out there with low clouds and frontal rain with icing in the clouds so most of the flights are getting cancelled... but it's always good weather in the sim. Maybe not today because I'm doing an IF sim but the weather is really up to the instructor.
Briefing starts in just under half an hour so I got my gear already and will take a last look at the books before going down there.
This Saturday, the senior class at our flight has their selection, which means that they get told what they'll be flying when they're done here, which is pretty soon. We had planned to go and party abit in Regina on Saturday, but now that this has come up, we'll probably go to the selection. Unlike back home in Denmark, most will get what they want here in Canada. There are just as many who want to fly helicopters and transports as there are who want to fly fighters. Actually the fighter community is the one having biggest trouble getting people to put fighters as their priority for the selection.
That's it for now.

Message(Tuesday 1430) So we're back to business. None of us Danes are on today's programme but three of us are on tomorrow's schedule, and the three others are on the standby schedule. Myself, I'm on the standby one.
Earlier I had mentioned that we were done with ground school but we still have a small subject left, which is about how to plan navigation trips.
We start the subject tomorrow but today we did some self-paced lessons to get into the subject before actually starting it. It's been a really long time since we had those self study CBT's (computer based training).
Man I hope that I'll get to fly tomorrow, however being on the standby programme in conjunction with the weather forecast, the chances of me flying tomorrow are quite dim - but we'll just have to wait and see.
One thing I'm enjoying is the warm weather. It's nice to breathe the outside air without it hurting your lungs. Even driving the car gave some funny experiences. For one thing, the car spun the wheels very easily, even if the road was dry in winter. The rubber and the asphalt were so cold that there would simply be no grip. The worst is probably when you start the car on a very cold morning (if it starts) and you have "square tires." Because the rubber is so hard it feels like the tires are squarish for a while until they loosen up a bit.
That's it for now. Tune in tomorrow for some flying action news.

Message(Sunday 1340) So most of the website is back online...except for the most important, which is the picture gallery and some other less important stuff like the links and games pages which I don't seem to have with me here in Canada.
I also don't have the video section anymore but I will get some videos back online soon - just on a new channel.
I really considered closing the whole thing down instead of starting all over again but somehow I still feel it's worth the hassle. If those Islamic hackers think they can shut me up because they got offended by some Danish catroons, then they can think again. Long live freedom of speech!
Otherwise not much new here on Easter Sunday. It's been raining most of the day and it's actually quite nice. I hadn't seen rain for over half a year. Yesterday I went for a BBQ at a friend of mine. It was quite cold by the time we got to eat and it was windy too.
Tomorrow's my last day off but I'll be back in business to be as prepared as possible for flying. I have a sim in the morning and I'll probably use most of the day studying. I don't think I'll be flying on Tuesday but it won't be too long after that.
Have a great Easter.

Message(Friday 1310) I spent the day repainting the Hawk so far. I wasn't happy with the colour so I decided to mix som acrylic paint and paint it with the brush. The finish isn't as neat as it looked when it was sprayed but the colour is more accurate. It's a compromise which I'm happy with. It almost looks like I painted it with a broom, no actually it looks like I used a toilet brush. But anyway, I'll post a couple of pictures when it's ready. Now it's a bit too dark and I can't tell whether it's blue or black but most poeple ask whether the real one is blue or black anyway, so i guess I'm not far off.
I really enjoyed building this model. Looking back at when I started in the hobby (age 16), my dad used to build them for me and I used to fly them. I wasn't bothered or interested in building so it worked out fine. He also did a great job at building them. But now I don't have any choice and I'm actually happy to be doing the whole job myself and then go out and test fly the bird.
One of my Canadian buddies called and asked if I want to join them for dinner tonight as I'm the only Dane around in the area. So I said yes of course. I mean what do you expect me to do on Good Friday? Go to church?
A positive note is that we've found new people to move into our apartement which is a big burdon off our chests as our economy had gone bunkers after the girl living there moved out. That also makes me more at ease now that I have to start flying this coming week.

Message(Thursday 1820) It's TGIT night tonight as this week we don't have TGIF.
Another week over and this one ended with great news. We'll be flying this coming week and once we start we'll be flying every day, sometimes twice a day. The great thing about it is that this time it's not rumours but it's official from the Bandit flight scheduler. So I'll do some reading this weekend to be as prepared as can be. I also booked a practise sim for Sunday morning. Yes, I know it's Easter Sunday but I don't mind using a couple of hours in the box to prepare myself. All the Danes and most of the Canadians will be in Banff on a ski holiday this weekend so it's quite lonely here at the Jaw. Not many will be here for Easter but some will and I got invited for an Easter lunch at a class mate of mine.
I sprayed my Hawk model after school today. It looks great, however the blue isn't near as dark as the one on the real plane, even though it was by far the darkest blue spray can that I could find. I don't know if I'll try another solution or just go with what I have. Otherwise it's almost ready to be test flown but I'll wait until it's completely ready with the finishing so I get a few pictures of it with the full size one before I get it airborne. You never know...
Now I'm off to the mess as the pizza arrives in 10 minutes or so. Have a great weekend and a happy Easter.

Message(Tuesday 1915) I went to get my monthly egress trainer done and as soon as the guy saw me he said: "You're due, aren't you?" while smiling in a nasty manner. "Take it easy on me, Mario. I have a weak heart," I said. "Hehe. So do I. Get in your gear," he said. He wasn't hard on me actually and all went as usual. I can't wait to get the 4 day Easter weekend.
The Hawk model is coming along nicely. The retractable gear has been fitted and adjusted and works the way it should...on the ground at least!
The weather was nice and warm today. I think we had 10C and by the looks of it, it's going to stay this way. I was SO tired of that brutal winter.
Well, that's it for now. Stay tuned!

Message(Monday 1015) It's probably going to be a while before the website is online again and it won't be the same as you know it. More details will follow when I think is appropriate.
We have windy conditions here at the Jaw and the wind is right across the runways so we're on a standby programme but it seems that they'll start flying again in a few minutes.
The word is that we'll be flying right after Easter which is very realistic. Otherwise not much new here.
My monthly egress training runs out in a couple of days so I have to go and renew it. I think it's going to be a very eventful one this time. The guy in charge of it wrote an email to the whole school a few days ago saying that he'll be going to Cold Lake next weekend and if anyone has the same plans and wants to get a ride, we should just contact him. Cold Lake is 7-8 hours drive from here. So I replied to his email and wrote:
"Seriously man, who the hell wants to sit in a car with you for 15 hours??" Then a few days later I met him and he punched me on the shoulder. I had forgotten all about the email so I looked at him and asked why the hell he did that. "The email," he said. "I try to do people a favour and all I get back are replies from smart-asses like yourself. I look forward to your next egress trainer," he continued. He said I'll have to do it with full winter gear (no matter the weather) and I'm going to get all the emergencies. So we had a laugh but I think he'll be the one laughing tomorrow.
