I did know your father but not well. He was in the 3rd Plt. and I was in the 1St so he was at the other end of the Building. I had to look in my year book to bring back memories. Stan Kelly was in the 3rd Plt. and he might remember him but stan does not have a computer but I do have his address if you want it.

MessageHiHugo,
Actually i had a good time while in Bad Hersfeld. The alerts we had wern't much fun as a rule. I had a 50 cal. ring mount on my 5 ton trk so of course i had the 50 cal. machine "gun" to deal with plus the tripod and my personal weapon, an M-14. A lot of stuff to run up the hill with. The snack bar was a a popular place to bug out, never knowing when someone would come in and ask questions as to why we are in there. The chopper hit hard, I never heard if the pilot survived or not. The gas dump fire was spectacular as 5 gal GI cans full of gas exploded and were sent all directions, some smashing into the steel link fence surrounding the dump and were stuck fast to the fence with their bottoms blown off. Heads rolled over that mess. On guard duty, one of the guys in the guard house was playing with his 45 and managed to shoot a hole through his hand, another fun time. I have a lot of interesting experiences that I still remember. The night I left for "THE WORLD" Foxy gave me a huge Bad Hersfeld flag he took off of a flag pole downtown as a going away gift. I had it for several years before sending it back to Hersfeld. Dang, so many memories,,,,. Anyone care to email me?? Do it!

MessageWhen I was in Bad Hersfeld Elementary school in 1958-1961 I remember a "girl friend" I had. Mind you I was in the 5th and 6th grade. In any case, her father was an officer and her name was Susan Berman. Does that last name ring a bell with anyone?

MessageFor Mary York Dunham:
Mary, I went to BH Elementary from 1958-1961. In the last year I had to be bused to Fulda for "middle" school. Hated it there but loved Bad Hersfeld. I only wish I could remember my classmates. Only name I recall was my neighbor, Chuck Sanderson. You are right, not much time left.
Have a very Merry Christmas,
Hugo Lee

MessageTo Bob Muir,
My father, SFC Clyde Lee Jr, was stationed there in Bad Hersfeld and I was in the 5-7th grades. I was in the playground the day the chopper went down. I too saw it and my dad ran down and was the first guy on site and helped the pilot out.
Sorry your experiences weren't as great as I remember mine being.
Merry Christmas,
Hugo Lee

MessageTo Ed Montgomery

I was in K Troop 71-72 and worked in the motorpool. Are you the same Montgomery that jumped off a Sheridan and caught your ring? If so I was the one who drove you back to Hersfeld to have your ring cut off and finger stitched. Had some good times there. Would love to go back and check the place out.
