| Message | Hello and Merry Christmas troopers. I sent previous postings to this site and I also have fond memories of Hersfeld. I was there from 64 -67. HHQ 3rd. In the motorpool. I sent a few pictures to Deitz and he posted one to the site. I am going to throw a few names out and if anyone knows these guys let me know. Trooper Gray, a black guy who worked in the tool room with me. Al Sestawicki, Herman Reese, Earl Hardeman, Gary Palmer ( not the golfer) . I know my chances of contacting these guys are slim but who knows. My best to all. Good Health. Have a flip top for all the guys in the 14th. |

| Message | To: Ed Montgomery Thats amazing. I can't believe I remembered that after almost 35 years. I can remember clear as day you jumping off that tank. That ride did seem forever. I have a border marker that we got from a barber pole while on border patrol that I have in my office that reminds me of Hersfeld. I ended up with it and somehow got it home in my hold baggage. Probably not many of them around. I found this site by acident one day just searching the web for Hersfeld. Great site. You're the only one I've heard from also. When I was there I couldn't wait to get home, but now I think I had some of the best times of my life there. I would like to hear from some of the old guys...New, McGrarry, Sgt. Dozier. We sure did drink alot of beer. I've forgotten a lot of names. One of these days Id like to go back and see the place. I'll let you know if I can remember anyone else you may know. Have a Merry Christmas and let let me know what you remember about K Troop. |

I had to look in my year book to bring back memories. Stan Kelly was in the 3rd Plt. and he might remember him but stan does not have a computer but I do have his address if you want it. | Message | HiHugo, Actually i had a good time while in Bad Hersfeld. The alerts we had wern't much fun as a rule. I had a 50 cal. ring mount on my 5 ton trk so of course i had the 50 cal. machine "gun" to deal with plus the tripod and my personal weapon, an M-14. A lot of stuff to run up the hill with. The snack bar was a a popular place to bug out,never knowing when someone would come in and ask questions as to why we are in there. The chopper hit hard, I never heard if the pilot survived or not. The gas dump fire was spectacular as 5 gal GI cans full of gas exploded and were sent all directions, some smashing into the steel link fence surrounding the dump and were stuck fast to the fence with their bottoms blown off. Heads rolled over that mess. On guard duty, one of the guys in the guard house was playing with his 45 and managed to shoot a hole through his hand, another fun time. I have a lot of interesting experiences that I still remember. The night I left for "THE WORLD" Foxy gave me a huge Bad Hersfeld flag he took off of a flag pole downtown as a going away gift.
