MessageI It was my honor and privilege to have known Shane Drury for ten years and I must say he was on of the greatest examples of courage and tenacity I have ever been exposed to.. I organized the Shane Drury benefit bull riding and what a magnificent day it was!!!It made me proud to be an Oklahoman as his adopted home state gathered to honor him and let him know we were with him in his fight with cancer. In short, we gathered a love offering of of over 40,000.00 dollars to help him in his scrap against the dreaded disease..As great as that gift was,it was secondary to the real gift of that day:On that day Shane Drury experienced the AGAPE type love of his adopted home state and became a true Child of GOD...Grown men wept unashamedly as people felt the miracle of compassion and love as it swept through the arena...Shane was astounded as he saw his friends and people of the rodeo world stand tall in their expression of love and support
for this giant of a man..Although he stood an inch above 5 foot physiacally, his strensth of character made him seem to be 7 foot in stature and courage..
I loved Shane as if he were my own and felt his joy as well as his pain..His courage was exemplary and I had the privelege of watching him grow spiritually as he fought hi adversary gallantly..I pray GOD would send us more Shane Drurys for role models...I only wish my grandchildren could have known him as I did !!
I encourage all who read this to buy NOTHING BUT TRY,his life story

MessageIn a time when heroes are needed, "Nothing But Try" reminded me it is not what one does in life but how one lives that matters. Shane's story was a glowing tribute of a boy raised to be a man that faced challenges with humor, strength and integrity. I congratulate you, Tall Paul, not only for the writing of "Nothing But Try" but also for your family's willingness to share Shane's story. For me, "Nothing But Try" reflects Shane's heroism not only because he faced death, but also because he chose to live, on his terms.

MessageJesse, Chad and "Tall Paul,"

I just finished the book. An inspiring and great read , thanks Paul. As with others it was an emotional roller coaster. I laughed loud and sat quietly after reading some of the stories. Shane was a great person and I am thankful to have known him. I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for who you are and what you do. Take care.

MessageShane's book is DEFINITELY an emotional rollercoaster!! I laughed at so many of the rodeo stories that I had forgotten about! I laughed at ALL the stories that I didn't even know about, especially of Shane's youth! I can't say how much Shane's story has changed my life. To read EVERYTHING about him was EVEN better!! Shane has been an inspiration to a lot of us and by reading "Nothin' But Try" was just another reminder of that!! That book came at the RIGHT time in my life!! I have been blessed to know the whole gang and they all have inspired me one way or another!! Thank you Jesse, Chad and Tall Paul!!
P.S. I have one of the original painting by Tall Paul of "Pecker Rock!!" I plan on keeping it FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!

MessageMy wife bought me Shane's book for Valentines Day and I finished it this morning. The memories I have of Shane were brought back so vividly like they were yesterday. I found myself tearing up several times and laughing out loud to the point my wife asked what was so funny. It was great to see the stories I have shared with her about Shane appear in the book. Most of my memories involve wrestling alongside Shane from 8th grade at Dakota to my Senior year at Central. He was always an inspiration to me and it made me proud to say I was his teammate and friend. He used to make all of us laugh especially when he used to say, "Don't be tough." Ironicly that was what Shane always was. My favorite memory has to be Shane asking for a ride back to Rapid from Brookings. I had a 1990 Buick Skylark nicknamed "The Buck" and I obliged. We were just East of Wall where the road gets real wavy and he started riding the passenger seat like it was a bareback horse yelling "Hang on Buck." We laughed the rest of the way home. Since joning the military 10 years ago I never got to see Shane again. I knew of his success and struggles and was always proud to have known him. I will never forget you Shane and promise to help keep your legacy alive! Thank you Chad, Jesse and Tall Paul for the book and all that you have done to keep his memory alive. Sam
