MessageI'm so impressed with this website. The film, 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley' has reawakened my interest in this subject. My grandad was the Piper of Crossbarry so it is of special interest to me.

MessageAlison,

As far as I know, no such places exist in Co. Cork (I stand to be corrected). There is a Kilmare in Co. Cavan and a Google search mentions a Kilmare Co-Op in Co. Kerry. (O'Shea is a name quite common in Co. Kerry)

'Kelly the Boy from Killane' is a well known Irish ballad, referring to Killane, which is near Enniscorthy in Co. Wexford.

MessageHello, please can anyone tell me where these places are in County Cork called "Killane" and "Kilmare"? I could not find these places on the map of Ireland, so I wondered if these places may have had their names changed. My friend who lives in Wales and I are researching our ancestors of the surname O'Shea or Shea who were from Cork and County Cork. We think our families may have a link between them in history. Thank you for any help it will be appreciated by both of us.

MessageHello, I found this website to do with Cork history, which might interest people and there is also a link to a picture of Terence MacSwiney which might interest Damian if I have the right person here.

This is a Sinn Fein website, but it is also interesting to read about Ireland's history and the hunger strikes during the 1980s. I am not a political person so I found this website interesting to read.
