A quick story. Few films really hit me, and I mean really hit me! As a filmmaker myself I always 'see' the camera and 'see' the techniques. But with Requiem for a Dream - although the editing/score etc was all very jarring and obvious - I fell right into it. Many people have had this experience and it is a magic. A rare cinematic drug. I saved up and flew, with a friend, to Coney Island all the way from Coventry, England. (Coincidentally the same home town as Clint Mansell). Maybe, if one of my films enters the 'community', I'll be able to meet you and thank you personally for this experience. You only live one life and I cannot tell you how fortunate I feel to live at this moment with so many fantastic artists around me; seemingly at our fingertips too.
Also, while I am at it, I thought The Wrestler was the best film of 2008. Funny too, because when I saw the trailer I thought "what? No, what is Darren thinking!" I thought it'd be some Crazy Heart sort of biopic. Completely wrong of course and in fact I think the film is perfect. I travelled all the way across country to see it with some friends too... I will only ever see it once however, as it's too emotional for me.
Well done and like I said, I fully support you! |
