MessageYour writing sounds like my brain, written. I love etymology and i really appreciate the way you give meaning to the word, literally, and then bringing it all together with a sound definition at the end. Beautiful stuff, really. Where can i find more of your thoughts?

MessageHi Lauren

i just want to let you know your flair for explaining "in laymens terms" highly uncommon words with every aspect of the right or wrong ways to use such words in certain contexts have been the only blog i have maintained a screenshot on my iphone since 2010 & while i understand priorities changes as we age, I have since read your last entry in 2016 but I am across the word indolence & my immediate thought was lacuna which was I believe one of your entries which led me to unearth my backups for your site URL.

you certainly have a talent here & no doubt it is probably put to better use elsewhere.

just so you know your blog have indeed made a difference to me - & its impact resonated today

MessageMy mother-born in 1912 in Wilkes County, NC and of Scottish descent-used to use a word that I have tried to find many times. I have never heard anyone else use it. It sounded like "mullmire". The meaning seemed to be a situation that was a mess and hard to get out of. I'm reading the Outlander series and the author uses many words common in the 1700's. Moil being one I ran across this morning. So I searched moil and mire online and ran across your blog about moil and toil. It seems like moil was most likely the origin of my mother's term. Have you heard of "moil mire" being used in such a way? Thanks!
