| What site-area(s) drew your interest? | Argerich events |
| Message | Claire and others, I'm going to be changing the events page and listing the events in non-chart format and will be using information from two who have agreed to let me use and combine their lists. I've not done a thing for a few months due to other projects taking over but I'll have time during this coming week, and it should be done by Wednesday the 20th. Apologies to readers and contributors. - Andrys |

| Message | Tom, See a description of the history of that shorthand at the following page: http://bit.ly/wordorigins The article is more harsh than I prefer, but its factual points are actually good. The word you object to has been shorthand for writing "Christmas" for hundreds of years, and the shorthand originated with the look of the original lettering and with Christians. I'll quote from the ending words on that page: ---------- "Even Webster’s dictionary acknowledges that the abbreviation Xmas was in common use by the middle of the sixteenth century. . . . It is simply another way to say Christmas, drawing on a long history of symbolic abbreviations used in the church ... Understanding this use of Christian symbolism might help us ... focus on more important issues of the Faith during Advent, and bring a little more Peace to the Xmas Season." ---------- I hope so. |
