MessageHistory teacher from Galway. Congratulations on the site and all the effort you have put into it. I hope your local students have been able to use it to help in their Leaving Certificate Special Research Studies and other project work. The importance of local history in helping students develop an appreciation for history can`t be overstated. Long may you keep up the good work.
Ádh Mór,

Messagethanks alison for your input, when i spoke of kew in london i was refering to the national archives at kew as in (kew gardens). so when you say kew dublin, then i imagine you meant the national archives dublin. anyway my grand father was involved in the deaths of some black and tans in west cork 1920-1921 and any records involving the black and tans are under the ric records which are all held at kew. this is why i went to kew. they had most of the records i searched for, but unfortunately very little on coroners inquests or courts of inquiry. i am nearly certain that dublin hold no records from ric, but i will give them a try. they might even point me in the right direction. i am still open to any other suggestions someone might have, thanks. smilie

MessageI would of thought Kew in Dublin would have been better for information. Also, this forum might help with any questions www.familyhistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?showforum=12

Coughlan, Charles, age 19, Washbrew Lane, Cork?

Washbrew Lane (now demolished) was located on the North side of Cork city, off Fair Hill.

Search Google for 1911 census Ireland and enter name and location Cork.

MessageI am trying to find information on Charles Coughlan (my great grandfather) who was elected on 17 Jan 1920 South Area No1 Aldermen Charles Coughlan under Sin Fein and Transport Workers. He lived in Barracks Street about this time and I would love to find out more about him if anyone has any information. The information on his gravestone says G Company (2nd Bat) 1st Cork Brigade IRA he was apparently close to Tomas MacCurtain, he unfortunately died of cancer in 1925 and received an IRA funeral and is buried in St. Finbarrs Cemetery. Thanks so much. Sharon

Messagethis little snippet of info is for a man called tom white, who back in december 2005 queried about the crowley invalid murder, a retaliation by the ric or tans if you want. you mention that your grandfather michael crowley who was his brother and as far as i know was the intended victim fled to the usa after the murder in june 1920, i am fairly well informed on this event as i have a great interest in the bantry area of this time. my grandfather michael o driscoll was in the bantry battallion and extremely active, and due to my research of the bantry activities, and grandfathers, i have come across this event quite often. write in and let me know if you are still interested, i would be happy to help out with any info you need. smilie
