MessageCase was lost in jury selection and in Peterson's choice of lawyer (Rudolf may well have been good, but not in Durham). The state did not meet its burden of proof (no murder weapon) IMO-might be able to overlook that if they didn't have a body to examine. While the doc and miniseries may, indeed, be biased- so is this site.

MessageAfter watching the Staircase documentary on Netflix and also the HBO show, I felt that the physical evidence did not get the attention it deserved. If they had shared ALL the details about the physical evidence (for example, such as how she had been deceased for hours before paramedics got there, or how she had defensive wounds on her body), his guilt would be so obvious that people wouldn't get intertwined in the mystery that the documentary is painting. As well, the financial motive for murder is not touched upon. This documentary is extremely biased. They wanted to make a film about the American justice system; they needed to have a case that wasn't definitive, but this case is pretty clear cut. The documentary did give a good look at what a greatly orchestrated defence looks like, and how much money a person needs and in this sense, has proved what most people already know - justice is often for those who can afford it.

This website has shown many aspects of the case that are important but are not mentioned in the Staircase. I thought Michael always maintained he was outside for 45 minutes, but apparently he first said he just went out to turn off the lights. This fact was never mentioned and to me this is a huge indicator of guilt. It's insane how far people have to stretch their imaginations to believe a version of events where Kathleen fell down the stairs. All said and done, Michael hoped it would be believed to be an accident and he would inherit her money.

MessageI recently watched The Staircase on Netflix, and came away with a reasonable doubt that Peterson was guilty.

I didn't come away thinking he was innocent either, and so I set about reviewing what I could find about the case online.

Your site, and a few others set the record straight, and definitely show that the documentary is a fraud that prays on our empathy and credulity.

Apart from the evidence you've clearly presented, one of your best rhetorical points about the documentary and Peterson's dishonesty is that he was all too willing to appear in the documentary, yet wasn't willing to take the stand.

There is next to no critical questioning of Peterson in this documentary; the only scene that comes to mind is in the new episodes with the reporter asking him if Kathleen and he had spoken about it: his answers to that are pathetic.

The Staircase is more of a PR piece than a documentary.

What a sham. I feel betrayed and sick to my stomach. I can't imagine what Kathleen’s family (those who didn't fall for Peterson's lies anyway) have had to go through all these years.

So thank you for taking the time to help set the record straight.
