MessageAccording to FTDNA, three markers in my J1c1b2a mitochondria signature are found only in Orkney and Shetland (the rest anyplace in the UK). Just curious about how that might help in tracing such genetic roots when I have no documented evidence other than a marriage note about my earliest known female ancestor, b. 1735-ish, possibly in North or South Carolina. Her name was Mary Soleta Farmer, and when 15 or so she married Eli Washington Dodgen. Any ideas if this generates clues?
Thank you.

MessageThanks so much for this, I found the marriage I was looking for in 1851. We love the Orkneys- we visited in 2016 and stayed a few days. Then found out we had connections smilie

MessageHi, I am excited to search around for traces of family many generations ago. I have recently seen evidence that a Hugh Henry, probably 8 generations ago, might have been born from parents from, or himself born, in Orkney, sometime around 1665.

MessageOral family history mentions the possibilities of Orkney, Shetland and Viking heritage in our Adamson family. So, from Australia, we are often looking at genealogy sites such as yours. Too difficult at this stage to see any links to the Adamsons of Pittenweem, Fife. We shall keep seeking! Loved the James Wallace manuscript, what a treasure! Thank you.
