MessageGraham is a gifted teacher of the theory and practice of film-making, a gift honed and developed over years working in the Attic Studio. He directed three of my short film scripts for broadcast and succeeded in bringing great visual flair to each film while remaining true to the spirit and mood of the script in each case. MessageI was fortunate enough to avail of a place on an "Acting for Camera" course with Graham Cantwell. Inspiring, Refreshing, Naturalistic and Motivating are just a few of the words I would use to describe his unique teaching style.

As a student of Graham, one sees the character from a holistic point of view. The time is taken to intrinsically analyse the scene and the possible subtext of the scene. As an actor under the guidance of Graham, it struck me that he had an innate sense of what to get out of each individual performance I did and he was so skillful in how he did it that I find it impossible to describe his method!! In a sense, he takes the "acting" out of acting.

Under his direction of a scene, I felt there was a real sense of security and freedom to explore and almost internalise what my character was feeling and therefore face up to the challenge of delivering the best performance possible. And it was all so enjoyable!!!!

It was a pleasure taking the course with him and I hope I will be lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with him in the future at some stage.

MessageWhat Graham brings to any class he teaches is a comfortable & friendly atmosphere where the students feel relaxed enough to ask questions and get involved. The fact that he is actively working in the industry on such a high level means he brings a practical and up to the minute approach to his teaching. To the students this is invaluable. Graham Cantwell is at the top of his game and his understanding of character as a writer makes him an excellent Acting Coach and his active involvement in making movies today makes him a Godsend for teaching Filmmakers and screen writers. I believe fully in Graham Cantwell's talents and am excited about his future.

MessageIf the course was double the price I still would have paid, because it was well worth it. You see a scene from the workshop and you would think we were professionals. Personally thats what I thought.

We even had time to watch him edit some scenes from the class and choose which one is convincing and which one's not. This helped us get over seeing ourselves on screen because we just got used to it. It also helped us see when we were 'acting' and when we were true to the scene. Just brilliant.

Things like this in his class goes beyond your typical acting class. And due to the small numbers, he get to attend to each actor individually. My speed for preparation was tested to the fullest and I am so glad it did because Graham was the only one I know who could pull that out of me. Thanks man, appreciate!

MessageI would recommend the Acting for Camera course to everyone, regardless of your experience as an actor. To get to work with a director like Graham is fantastic. He genuinely cares about you as an actor, respectful of the creative process an actor must go through and understands that not every actor follows the same steps in order to get to the final result. He gets what an actor needs in my opinion and lets face it, everyone should try to work with and learn from a director like that!

MessageI attended a class last night with Graham in Dublin. It was just two hours but it was an absolutely fantastic two hours. I took in so much in that class than I have in a long time. I attended another of Graham’s classes in 2009 just for one day also and it too was a great experience. Both were very inspiring!

MessageI want to say thank you for sharing your great experience that you went through the hard way by making "Anton". Everything that you said was very helpful and valuable to me for making not only feature movie but short as well. The best thing I learned from you (and I'm still learning), is your communication with actors, and you taught me the most important lesson - a director's job is to inspire.

MessageI found Graham Cantwell's approach to teaching both fresh and inciteful. He has a great way of working with people that makes them feel at ease and he strives to get the best from each individual person.
