MessageHi Joan
I will keep it sweet and short. I heard you speak on the radio and loved what you had to say. I am a social worker in NZ working with stroke patients and have for such a long time stated: "it's all about food and the processing of" etc etc. Are there any organizations/lobby groups already up and running in NZ to open up this whole can of worms? I look forward to hearing from you

MessageHello Joan, Way back in 1990 you sent me a letter of encouragement after giving your input to a small research study on alternative foods and agriculture in the Mississippi delta. I may still have it somewhere.. maybe in a dusty copy of that study, which seems not to have made much difference, but it is archived at Delta State.

Life took me away from my native state soon after the report was finished, but I returned in 2008 with an even keener awareness of the need to connect agriculture and health. Such is especially important if we are to encourage holistic health here in MS. We are a very medically conservative state.

I just became aware through Daniel Doyle that your son teaches at UM. And that you visit often. I would love to meet you on a MS visit one day. I'm pleased that Daniel wishes to share your knowledge around our state and will do what I can to help.

Peace, Nancy

MessageHappy New Year,
It is the best of Wisconsin weather, cold and finally snow on the ground, after this last year of drought. I am incorporating "Featured Thinkers" in my Ecology of Foods winterim class so students not only connect with their food but with the people who have been nudging communities into realizing a food culture needs to be consciously shaped. As I am preparing the introduction to you and your work, I am sorry that there are not more videos of you, although you are able to say more in 5 minutes, than many do in hours. I was looking for the video of a speech you gave at Yale (I think) a few years ago. If you know of a link to this, please would you pass this along to me? I think many others would also be happy to see this, so perhaps a link on this blog site might be a consideration.
I am looking forward to seeing you this year!
Wishing you abundant joy,
Jasia

MessageDear Joan,
I've just started reading your book,"Growing Older" and finding so much to agree with. I'm a retired elementary teacher and a writer. Beginning to get older - 75 years and going through end-of-life issues with my husband of 51 years.
I'm so excited to hear someone saying things I have believed for years. I'm so concerned about the children of today -- issues of autism, we rarely saw autistic children 30 years ago. Could something in our environment or food be affecting these precious little ones. I think so. My grandfather taught me gardening the organic way and I continue to grow organic food, although difficult in Oklahoma's weather. Keep up the good work. You encourage "older folk" like me!
